I've been hearing that salt water is good for healing and stuff for belly button peircings. I think I have an infection, and I want to do as much as I can to help it. Will this work?

I am using peroxide, rubbing alchohol, and everything when I clean it (once a day). I thought maybe the salt water would help my belly button, for any reason. I'm going to start cleaning it ALOT more often.

yep definitely! i got my nose pierced and got this bump on it(not an infection though) and my sister got the same thing on her belly button when she had it pierced. soak it in salt water for about 10 minutes twice a day. but keep it away from cloth. put the salt water in a shot glass and soak it in there. any kind of cotton fibers or anything will get caught in the infection and make it worse
i also use 100% tea tree oil. It helps swelling go down and it's been working on my nose like a charm. I do the tea tree oil twice a day but the salt water only at night. cuz it dries out the skin a lot
hope this helps and your infection goes away! I know how much it sucks!!!
oh but DONT USE BACTINE!!!!! ive never seen it work on anyone! Its always seemed to make things worse!

well you are already doing MANY THINGS WRONG AAS YOU ARE NOW!!!!
firts of all stop using the rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide or any ointments like neospoin. this may be the reason why you think you are getting an infectin. al of these damdage the good tissue, causes a great deal of irritation and decreses the healing time takign the piercing long tot heal. so STOP USING THESE RIGHT AWAY! your piercer should have given you after care instructions
YOU ONLY NEED TO CLEAN IT TWICE a dAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS IT! any more will irritate the piercing even more than it already is now.... your putting all of that junk on it.... the only thing that should go on any piercing is sea salt soaks and aftercare pierce solution! THATS IT!
why sea salt??? warm sea salt with disteilled water draws otut he discharge that can cause an infection. it also promotes the healing, soothes the pain. (im sure your piercing is pretty irritated rigth now.......and propblably do or are developing an infection from cleaning it so much and all)
here is a link for the sea salt soaks!
but please whatever you do do the sea salt soaks once a day. i just used a shot class, for 15 minutes. thats it! and use aftercare pierced solution twice a day. you dont need to clean it so much you are only going to irritate yourself and make it take longer to fully heal...they can take up to a year to heal....
please listen to me. i have heard horror stories abotu peroxides and alcohols and ointments on piercings and even says in bold letters int he middle of my aftercare pamphlet my pierce shop gives me not to use those....
but please look at this link
and follow the instructions
http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Rubbing_Alcohol
and
http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Salt_Soaks
but if you suspect that your piercing is getting infected then go back to your piercer and talk with them. im sure theyd scold you for using all of those chemicals on yourself
good luck
also after readng some other peoples comments do not use neosporin it will only create a moist environment and the discharge will not be able to escape, giving you a great risk for infection... please listen to me i know my stuff i have had experience! also do not use bactine it even says "not intended for puncture owunds on it" please listen to me and just stick tot he sea salt soaks and aftercare pierce solution!

IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE AN INFECTION STOP MESSING WITH IT SO MUCH. Salt water is good but just like all medicines too much or to little or too many can harm. If you need to go see a professional or at least to the place that you got it done. Don't forget there are many nasty skin infections that can become serious if you play doctor. I had one and I had to loose a chunk of skin before my ring just peeled off with the infected area

I have used salt water on infections from hang nails and it works really good. Make sure the water is pretty warm and soak the area for about 5 minutes once or twice a day.

hi yes salt water will help but not too much salt in the water that it may burn the piercing and yes cleaning it more than once a day will help and also go see a doctor just to have a look at it.

Salt water will NOT clear up an infection. Use peroxide, alcohol or antibiotic ointment and if it doesn't clear up, you may need to see a doctor. Don't let it get too bad.

Yes! It helps, that's for sure. If I were you though, I would go with Bacitracin. You don't want the infection to get out of control. Good luck! : )
