Upon graduating the police academy or when he joins with a department? And are you considered a police officer the day you graduate academy or not until you get a job? I saw this academy graduation video and they all call out the names of the graduates "police officer so and so please come forward" (referring to the students) as they are handing out the certificates.

In most academies you are hired prior to going to the academy, In some of the large police departments, LA, NY, Atlanta, you don't even go to thier academy unless you are first hired.

At the time you graduate the police academy you are recieve the POST basic police officer qualification.

But you have no police powers unless you are hired by a agency. you are merley certified, not employed or empowered

When you are hired by a department, and after you graduate ( at least in our department) after you graduate you are given your uniform including one or two badges and weapon.

It depends on the department and the state they work for. It can go either way. In my state, the decision is left up to the chief of police. If a new officer is given his/her badge they are considered active officers but can not make an arrest without a fully certified officer present. Once they graduate the academy and a supervised probation period they can function on their own.

Depends on the department. You can be POST certified by some training facilities without actually having been hired by a department. In that case, you'd get your badge when hired by the agency. In my department, you get hired first, go through POST certification (and are issued a training badge) and are presented your permanent badge upon successful completion of the program.

In Ontario Canada, you only go to police college (academy) once you are hired by a police service. If you pass at police college you are sworn in before a judge (police oath). You are officially a police officer then and receive your badge.

They have completed the academy but are not law enforcement officers until they complete a state exam and then are hired onto a department. They are announced as such because they probably have signed a conditional with the department that states upon completion of the state exam they are hired.

When you enter the police academy, you are a police cadet, or recruit. You get your badge after you successfully complete the prescribed courses at the police academy.

If you've been hired before or while you are in the academy, you receive your badge upon graduation.

If you are hired after completion of the academy, you receive your badge when you are sworn in by your chief.

You don't go to the academy until you have a job. You apply to a certain dep't. When you're accepted, they send you to the police academy, and then the job is waiting for you when you graduate.

On the day of graduation, they usually get their badges pinned on by the Chief Of Police, or the Mayor, but they get it on that day.
