I just got bit by my parrot on my ring finger and it burns like intense fire (almost fainted it was so bad when it first happened) in my pinky, ring finger, middle finger, all the way back to my wrist, which is kind of sore to bend now. But when I touch the finger that got bit, it feels ice cold. Are there any kind of signs of infection that I should look out for?

I know what I did wrong, I don't need to be told about a parrot's behavior, I need to know if my finger will be okay.

Two possibilities. He did nerve damage or you need a tetanus shot. If you didn't get the bite area clean enough or it was too deep to clean, you could get tetanus.
When did you have your last shot. I'm pretty sure you need a tetanus or at least a booster shot because you said it feels ice cold. That's the sign.
You shouldn't wait any longer than 12 hours after the bite or the next thing will be what appears to be an ear ache and then lock jaw.
You shouldn't play around with an animal bite.

Wow, do you have a big parrot? Sounds like a rough bite. It almost sounds like nerve damage to me...especially if you are feeling it in other areas of the hand and have an ice cold sensation. I might go to the doctor to get it checked out just in case, especially if the pain continues and does not get any better.

I've never been bit by a large parrot, so I don't know how it's "supposed" to feel, if that makes sense. I suppose I'd watch for any redness, swelling, puss, etc..

Did it break the skin? Could get infected if skin was broke. Yes parrots when they bite they bite hard. They have a lot of power in those beaks they are designed for breaking hard nuts. You might either have a real deep bruise or some nerve damage as a result of him biting you. Might need to see a doctor and keep your fingers away from his beak. By the way what did you do to make him mad at you?

I worked in pet biz many years & been bit by several kinds of animals. All animal bites hurt and stay very sore for a week or more sometimes. Are you up to date on tec shot ? If not you should get one asap. Signs of infection puffy red swelling that usually start around the bite area and spreads, discharge, or a red line. Infection is twice as painful as the soreness. If the pain increases by day vs. staying the same or tapering off then see a Doctor.

It sounds like he found a nerve, severely bruised the underlying tissue, or even broke a bone or two. Go to the dr, and have it x-rayed. Parrots have very strong beaks for cracking hard nutshells, and can break bones in the fingers very easily. These sound very normal for a really bad bite. If we're talking macaw or cockatoo bite, then I really feel bad for you!

Hiya, oh god i do feel for you, it does hurt, did the bite bleed, if so just put germaline or savalon on it, let it breath and wrap it up in the morn, if it didn't bleed then it will not be infectious but will throb for a while, the only time you need to be worried re infection is if it is an open wound and provided you have had a tetanus in the last 10 years you should be OK if you use antiseptic and let it air and keep it clean, if in a day or two it has gone red, hot to touch and ***** id see your GP, but if its a pinch dint worry. good luck.

Your parrot might have bitten the nerve !! How deep did he bite you, and what type of parrot is it ?

You might want to see a Dr about this, if not 'now', then as soon as possible ! The Dr also, can treat you for any possible infection.

sorry to hear about the bite. It happens to all of us parot keepers when we aren't concentrating and reading body language. He may have pinched a nerve when he bit which would explain the cold part. Might be worth a trip to the doctor to get it checked out. And next time, watch his body language :0)

Your hand sounds as if its infected, go and get medical help straight away.
You are getting the signs of infection now, don't leave it any longer.

SOUNDS LIKE INFECTION. DIFFERENT PEOPLE REACT DIFFERENTLY TO BITES. OUR PARROT WOULD SOMETIMES BITE US AND MY HUSBAND WHO IS DIABETIC WOULD GET INFECTED, BUT MINE NEVER DID. WE USED TRIPLE ANTIBOTIC ON THEM. IF IT IS A DEEP WOUND, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT, BUT GO SEE YOUR PHYSICIAN.

BTW SOMETIME PARROTS HAVE MISDIRECTED ANGER AND WILL BITE AND SOMETIMES IT IS A WARNING BITE LIKE IF THEY FEEL THREATENED AND TRY TO WARN YOU SO DON'T FEEL TOO BAD.
