You can get ideas from HGTV, TLC or the home channel. Most men or married couples that have basments let it be a man's...the man's getaway area where can do and be as loud as he wants. Depending on your lifestyle.. if u like sports.. u can make it look a sports club with sport poster in frames from Wal-mart, any pool table or games. Action figure stuff you've saved. I just think basements are just a cool place to get away from everything. It should be a project room. A project room to me is designing a place beyond what u thought it could be. Totally your style. For paint color, if u have a couch with different color threads choose a color that doesn't stand out the most. Then it'll set off the color of the room and work around that color.
I wish i could be there to help cuz i want to be an interior designer/decorator.

Start with what you are using the space for and what you are going to put in it. Look at the colors of the items you are going to use see if there is a theme you want to use i.e. 50's , movies ect. Just use your immiganation and above all make it something you like and don't worrie about what others think.
