I have a pit bull (lab cross??) we aren't really sure what he is, we rescued him. But he can jump so high! I have wanted to do agility with him, but I haven't gotten that chance to sign him up. I have some little dog agility jumps at home and I jump him pretty high over those. He is an amazing jumper and it is so much fun! He absolutely LOVES to jump! I just don't know if it will hurt his joints later on, (I have to jump him on the concrete, we have only a small grass area.) how high and how often should I jump him???

If you have to jump him on concrete try and get some rubber pads to put down for him to land on. The ideal surface should be something that will cushion his landing but also provide traction for him.

Agility jump height is usually determined by the dog's height. The bar should be set at shoulder height. If your dog is an amazing jumper he will have no problems clearing this height, and will probably not strain anything trying to jump something that is too high.

Visit the AKC web sight and down load the agility rules. This will tell you your dogs jump height. It is impractical to jump higher than this and serves no useful purpose if you plan on doing agility with your dog

so i that case get him to jump as high as he can,
i had a doberman once that could jump of the roof
train him to jump and he will jump even higher.
,
DONT jump him on concrete,,on ground or grass, you can always add sand and cover it with saw dust ,(that is clean)

any time you are around and he feels like it ,
if a dog gets tired he will sit down and breathe hard.
then let him rest.
take him to the country then he can jump over ditches

He is so happy doing those jumps, trust me, I have a high jumper too. Just start him off gradually so he dosen't get a sprain. Try to walk him alot too as if he gets fat, jumping wont be so comfy or easy. Also, do the agiltity classes!! We are doing it too! Good luck!

As high as he can. Can you make your small grass patch the landing spot?
