the author is unknown...

Much of the Babylonian/Assyrian mythos is nominally ascribed to the Sumerians....so, what comes down to us is a retelling/reworking of stories from [possibly] 1500 years earlier...
Similar stories occur in the Hittite,Hurrian, Canaanite, Akkadian, Hebrew forms...

There is also the significant influence of the "Avesta" ...the sacred writings of Zoroaster....

Um, well, there was the first writen code of laws (Hammurabi). I'm not sure there are Babylonian sacred texts. They barely had writing.
