Do you think man kind knows more about the world today than it did 5000 years ago?
Why would you submit to any religion made thousands of years ago by a bunch of people who didn't understand a damn thing about the world they lived in?

pleiades423: Mutations are a form of Evolution (score one for the Atheist).
Today we understand why we wash and clean.
Common people (back then)didn't care unless they were being threatened by God to do those things.
The people who wrote it knew why.

Yes, I do think the average man/woman even a adolescent has more of an understanding of the world today.
This is not to say some people weren't educated, but I think most people didn't know why they had to do the things told in their Religion.
I'm not trying to be vulgar.
But take the Jewish people for instance.
Why the circumcisions? Today we know why they did it.
If only they would have washed down there properly, it NEVER would have been practiced... right?

Actually, our genetic chain is degenerating, it's becoming weaker, more prone to mutations, cancers, and deformities, this would suggest that our minds were more capable back then. Sure, we have more technology, but we're sitting on 6,000 years of mindpower put into work. Back then, people would've understood mathematics much easier than the average people today. They were smarter. And you're right, they didn't know a lot about the world they lived in, yet they thrived. God made a lot of commandments that sounded ridiculous to the Hebrews. Stuff as simple as washing their hands, cleaning their bowls, etc. Other nations looked at them, and wondered, "Why is it that we always get sick, and they stay healthy?" It was because they obeyed God's commandments, they had no idea why, they just obeyed, sure enough, it kept germs and bacteria to a minimum. Knowledge and Wisdom aren't the same. What do you have?

Because Christianity wasn't founded by MEN it was founded by GOD. It doesn't matter how much the men knew or didn't know 5000 or however many years ago. God always has been and always will be. He is solely responsible for the creation of every living thing. Who am I to question HIM?!

Regardless, what does knowing more about the WORLD have to do with God? The truths we've discovered about the planet or the solar system or any other of God's creation are merely the revelation of physical knowledge. That doesn't apply to things spiritual or eternal.

Another point, some of the most "intelligent" people I know - and I'm talking ones who are near genius IQ - have absolutely no common sense.

Something to think about.

I agree with you that there are religions that are obsolete and very much confusing.
But there is a Bible that know the facts 5000 years ago.
5000 years ago, the Bible says that the earth is round, and it hangs on nothing. That human are just speck or small dust compared to the size of the universe. That there are mountains on the sea.
That humans must dispose its waste properly. On washing hands to ward off bacteria and germs. To avoid fatty foods.
That multiple sexual partners will give you STD's.
If fact God wants Israel to save the environment by not tilling the fields every 7th year.

That anger and worrying will only stress a person that will also lead to disease.

Read the Bible it has more information 5000 years ago that only in our modern time we able to confirm.

It is plausible that the humans of 5000 years ago knew much MORE about the world than we know, now. Religion, spirituality for that matter is NOT about submitting, but rather about solace. Seeking and finding comfort in relating the Divine Self to the Ultimate Divine...

It really has nothing to do with geology, geography, astrophysics, biology, or anything else we have investigated and think we know about the corporeal world we live in.

I understand what you are saying and see your point, but I also think that modern culture has lost much of its religion and only has the watered down remnants of 2 or 5 thousand years of evolution. The religions still work as a path to heaven or way to find enlightenment, it is just that there is so large of a demand for a negative religion that it has overpowered the good still left in it. Religion is sort of a way to hand guidance down to our children, guidance of experiences and lessons learned. I magine what would happen if we started learning from our pasts mistakes, History is trying to take the place of this void in religion.

Modern man knows more compared to man 1000 yrs ago - and that is proven by scientific knowledge. But what I don't get is how you were able to jump from the question of knowledge to the question of religion.

Unfortunately, you fail to see that even though religion was founded many years ago, there is such a thing as continuity. And this continuity allows religion change but still not losing its basic identity.

I mean look at yourself - don't you consider that you are still you even though many years have passed since you were born. Would you deny that you still have the same body size, knowledge and psychological attributes to the you say 4 years ago?

Continuity.

So...in a few thousand years you will be looked back upon as some one who doesn't know a damn thing about the world you live in, right?

Actually, it looks to me like you're way ahead of your time!

We know more now in the area of the physical sciences than we did in the past.

But from that, we cannot assume that we have an intellectual superiority in all things relative to the past.

In the far past, there was a tremendous wisdom demonstrated in practical psychology, sociology, arts, crafts, literature, philosophy etc.

You just have to read ancient philosophy or literature to know that.

Good question... They probably believe it because they're too weak minded to find the truth for themselves... It's pretty funny when you think about it, I mean, they think the world is 6000 years old, HAHAHAHA. Silly people... Their need to believe stems from the feeling of childhood helplessness and the brainwashing by their parents, who were brainwashed by their parents, and so on...
