If you live in the city and pay a sewer bill, you water ends up in a wastewater treatment plant. The solids settle out and are degraded as much as possible using natural breakdown (similar to composting). The rest is also left to breakdown through natural bacterialogical processes and purified and typically discharged back into a lake or river. If you are in a rural area, your waste goes into a sewage disposal system which is your own private wastewater treatment plant and let go to filter back into groundwater. Go to www.epa.gov and look up septic systems for more information.

It depends. If you live in the country, it probably goes into a septic tank. There waste (especially waste from your toilet) is broken down by bacteria in the absence of oxygen. Remaining water leaches out through a gravel bed in the yard. The solids left in the tank are eventually pumped out when the tank is full by a company that hauls it away (and probably uses it for fertilizer).
If you live in a town with a wastewater treatment facility, then all the waste water from your house (sinks, showers, toilets) drains through sewer lines to the wastewater treatment plant (probably goes through a few pumping stations during the process). At the wastewater treatment plant air is pumped through the waste and bacteria break it down. The difference in this process from a septic system is this time oxygen is present and the process is more efficient and goes much faster. Cleaned water is returned to a creek or river and the solids will be either dried and incinerated or used as fertilizer.

A processing plant that cleans it, filters it and then it goes into our local waterways.
