I mean, I know that theoretically it's possible to make gravy out of any kind of meat drippings. But, has anyone ever tried to do it with bacon grease? Would it be too salty? How would it taste on a breakfast bisquit?

2 to 4 ounces bacon, cut into small pieces OR 1/4 cup bacon grease (see note below)

1/3 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)

1 teaspoon sugar

3 cups milk (1 cup dry milk powder dissolved in 3 cups water)

This recipe is pretty easy and it is good too. Great over biscuits for breakfast or lunch. First cut the bacon into small pieces. Put it into a large skillet and fry it over medium heat. The bacon will release it's fat. When the bits of bacon are well browned stir in the flour. Continue stirring until the flour absorbs all of the fat. Add the salt, sugar and black pepper. Start out with the smaller amount of pepper and add more later if desired. Slowly stir in the milk. Use a whisk or a fork to prevent lumps. Continue stirring until the gravy boils. Allow it to boil gently for about 5 minutes. It will thicken nicely. Serve over toast or biscuits or mashed potatoes.

NOTE: If you don't have bacon, but you do have bacon grease, then use 1/4 cup of bacon grease instead of the bacon. Heat it in the skillet until it is bubbly. Stir in the flour and proceed as directed.

Amish Hot Bacon Dressing
(this can be used as a gravy)
Cook 1 lb. of bacon until it is done enough
that you can crumble it when it cools. Set aside.

In Mixing Bowl, combine:
2C Sugar
2tsp Salt
2-4 Eggs (depending on size)
1C White Vinegar
4C Water

Preheat MD/LG Skillet, lightly greased
to med/high. Pour ingredients from
mixing bowl into skillet and heat
just to boiling.

Add crumbled bacon.

Add flour or cornstarch to
thicken to about the consistency
of gravy, and it's done.

Traditionally, this was served
over lettuce, endive, or dandelions

It is not to salty. It tastes great. It will have a hint of a smokey and bacony flavor. I am speaking of a "saw-mill gravy". This is a gravy that you make with milk and a healthy pinch of salt and pepper. You typically find this gravy served with chicken fry steak, and biscuits. If you want to do "biscuits and gravy" try the drippings from browned up ground sausage. Make your gravy and add the sausage back in. Serve over biscuits. The gravy used to make biscuits and gravy is also the milk based gravy.

Yes! Allow the bacon grease to cool before you add any liquid to it. Add some milk and salt/pepper and bring it to a boil. If you've cooked one pound of bacon and are using the drippings, about 1 cup of milk should be plenty. While you are waiting for it to come to a boil, put about 1/4 flour in a coffee mug, turn your hot water on as hot as you can and slowly add it to the flour while constantly (and fast) stirring with a fork. you'll want to add enough water to make it look like thin pancake batter.
Once the milk and bacon grease come to a boil, thicken it with the flour/water mixture (make sure you use a whisk or fork). Season it any way you want and enjoy!!!

it's great.... try this

* 1 pound ground pork sausage
* 3 tablespoons bacon grease
* 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
* 3 cups milk
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS

1. Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
2. Mix bacon grease into the sausage drippings. Reduce heat to medium, combine with flour, and stir constantly until mixture just turns golden brown.
3. Gradually whisk milk into skillet. When the mixture is smooth, thickened, and begins to bubble, return the sausage to skillet. Season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat, and simmer for about 15 minutes.

My mom has done it before... my dad likes gravy on his biscuits, and when she had no sausage, she'd crumble up a piece or two of cooked bacon and add it to the bacon gravy. It was good. Still needed plenty of black pepper, IMO.

NO! absolutely not, you should not make gravy using bacon grease
bacon grease is bad for you. it clogs your arteries, i love bacon but afraid of the grease. try making gravy using vegetable oil and maybe have a bacon biscuit with gravy.
