I am going to be turning 19 shortly. Over the past three years or so, I've noticed a decrease in my ability to get things done. For example, I love drawing. From middle school up until 10th grade, I drew quite a bit. Never anything fantastic, but it was sort of a release for me. Since then, I have been slowly less able to even bring myself to pick up a pencil. In addition to this, I was becoming more and more irritated when customers walked through the door at the store and I had to get up and help them. One day, I quit a decent job just because of a rush of customers. I now have a desk job, but it's so wholly unsatisfying, and I'm finding again that I can't bring myself to get things done. I haven't gained any significant weight over these years, but I just always feel like a slug who is incapable of getting anything accomplished. What is going on with me? I want to be able to draw again!

Your have entered the young adult stage of your life so you should consider a health check-up by your doctor. It may be something simple like iron or hormone levels. However, I noticed you have a decrease in getting things done and that drawing was a "release" for you and you do not do that anymore like you used to. Everyone needs some sort of release, art, sports, dance ... etc so if drawing is out, you need to find one that you can do for at least 20-45 minutes a day ... like exercise (moderate until your doc checks you out). Joining a gym would also open you up to some social situations that can get that brain of yours going so you can find a "purpose".

I don't have an answer to this as I too feel the same way. Somedays I go on night walks or just force myself to draw anything, just to try and for fun. Sometimes I get back in the mood. Whatever you might try, I don't think any meds would help. If meds are what keep you you, then who are you really? Meds are evil. 'Specially Zoloft. *shudders* I've seen a couple people not act normal on it and I just don't like the looks of them bouncy commas....

Perhaps you are having thyroid issues. I felt much the way you did before I was diagnosed. Ask your doctor for a TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) test. If your results are normal, I would then consider speaking to your physician about depression. I wish you well and hope that you are feeling better.

It might be depression. Or it might be 'adolescent angst'. In any case, you need to find the motivation to turn things around for yourself. I've got a cousin who is over 30 now, and he has nothing because he has no stick-to-itiveness, not because he lacks ability. I would hate to see that happen to someone else.

Good luck.

Start exercising. Even walking every evening will get your adrenaline moving.

Take Vitamins, B complex and Iron will make you feel much better. It gets rid of the fatigue and makes you feel much more energetic.

Give it a try.

Yeah, I would say it's depression. Go talk to your doctor and they can prescribe something for you. I take Zoloft occassionally, and it has helped me to get out of my sometimes slummy times. Good luck and God Bless!
