However, I should point out the conversion will lose quility while gaining a lot of space. Most new DVD players these days support DivX and XviD codecs...you could just burn the files themselves to a CD or DVD.

Bear in mind that this will take some time. I have a reasonably fast PC and one hour shows can take up to 8 hours to transfer.
