im in 8th grade and my reading level is at 12th grade (Senior high school) but i want to make my reading level a college level so please help me. Yes im black but i like to read so all those stereotypes that you've heard that if you dont want a black person to learn put it in a book well Wrong!!

Ummm...i think you should be fine. If you want to improve your reading comprehension read some early english literature, or find out the syllabus for an english class at your local college. College level reading isn't that much more advance than 12th grade reading if you're taking AP courses. What's more important is what you can draw from the reading and if you can explain and expand upon what you've read.

And I think you're being a little defensive about being black and educated. That's not really an odd thing anymore. Chill out. You're not going to fall behind if you take some time off and read. Enjoy middle school and high school...you have plenty of time to read in college trust me...you'll be sick of reading toward the end of it.

The more you read, the better you'll become at it. Talk to the librarian about a list of college level books that might interest you. Then check some of them out. Reading higher level books will help challenge you and improve you reading skills.

sounds like you are doing pretty well already. take it easy, high school is right around the corner. worry about college reading levels then.
