The # 1 precaution: WASH YOUR HANDS, WASH YOUR HANDS, WASH YOUR HANDS!!!
Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you at all times during the cold/flu season. And keep your hands away from your face. That is harder to do than you think.
If you have to sneeze/cough, do so into the inside of the front of your shirt. If you cover your mouth with your hand, you've just contaminated your hand; you'll need to sanitize. Get the picture?

Vitamin C and ginseng. Both are great immunity raisers. So drink lots of OJ and get teas that include ginseng. Always bundle up when it's cold. Wash your hands. Great to have the "no soap" antibacterial hand sanitizers when traveling and shopping. Don't drink or eat after others.

Try touching public doors in areas where most people don't touch. When leaving a public restroom use a paper towel to open the door. Don't loan people your pen, phone, etc. If available always use self-checkouts at stores.

Use anti bacterial hand lotion often, it really works!!! Also, your diet helps. Lots of veggies and fruit, juice and stuff. After I became a vegetarian I never get colds anymore, it boosted up my immune system. I do thing using the anti-bacterial gel/cream is the best! Good luck!
