Well, yes and no. It depends on how mature the fifth grader is. Nowadays a fifth grader might go watch a movie with their bf. I think just watching a movie is o.k. The movie just has to be appropriate. Also if I was that fifth grader who wanted to start dating and a boy/girl asked me out...I would ask my mom or dad first. Yes I know parents MAY be overprotective at times, but it might help clean you'r consciounce and you'll know for certain that you're not doing anything wrong. I hope I was specific! :-)
Sincerely,

Absolutely not! I know that we have all had immature relationships with the opposite sex from as young as the age of 5 but these are just the way that we mimics our parents/family. There is no way a 10 years old has what it takes to date seriously. Now lots of kids organize play dates either with a small group or just two friends and this way I think is fine.

Ugh, that was the craze among the kids at one of my old schools (K-8, but I came in at 7th grade). They all made their mothers allow them to "date" when they were in 4th/5th grade. It wasn't even dating, they just picked a guy and called him their boyfriend. I had one friend who still referred to a guy as her "ex." She "dated" him in the third grade!

Personally, I think kids should hold off using adult-sounding terms until they're really ready to use them.

p.s. I'm not saying people under, say, 16 or something don't actually know what dating or love is "all about" (and I hate it when people imply that), but I do think kids should wait until at least 7th grade to even make an attempt at dating another person.

i remember when i was in 5th grade...had the HUGEST crush on this boy Matt, who i still say had the longest eyelashes and brownest eyes ive ever seen..anyway..lol...i think its def about the time where the whole bf/gf thing really takes off.

i think somewhat supervised(from afar) dates would be a good idea. maybe let the bf/gf come over and let them spend some time together and you'll know they'll be no more than a few rms away and you could even make them keep the door open if you wanted.

no. maybe 7th or 8th grade. 5th graders dont really know the meaning of relationships yet and its not like little 5th graders will be making out and going to the movies together. you should at least be in 7th grade to date. i dont even think 7th graders are mature enough, but i guess if they really like eachother.

Hum, let me think while I give the wheel a final spin.... (spinning) the letter is n. Contestant number one you're up first and you get a chance to solve the puzzle! Contestant One Guesses: No? That's right you have won $5,000. That's right fifth grade is WAY TOO YOUNG TO DATE! PERIOD.

Hell No ! A 5th grader shouldn't even be let out of the house alone. A parent who would let a 5th grader date would be a very sorry parent.

No definately not. I know a girl who probably started dating when she was younger than that and ended up having twins in seventh grade! Just enjoy your childhood while you still can! Sixteen is when I think people should start
