to much weight resistance can make your abs grow, but if your not doing weights on purpose you dont have much to worry about from crunches. Flutter kicks can give you lower ab lines so if you dont want those you can just stick to situps or crunches. Crunches put less strain on lower back muscles. If your body fat is high no matter how much ab work you do you wont see definition throught the fat. Their is no such thing as working out just one body part and thinking the fat will come off that area. You need to lower body fat to get abs to show their definition.

It will build the muscle to that point but the stomach is beneath that muscle so no it won't push the stomach out. You pretty much have to be on roids to make your gut get that big by doing situps. See a trainer, they will show you the proper way to do these excersises.

No that's not true. The abs are actually one muscle, and to push them out further to make you look fatter, you'd have to build them up to insane amoutns. Look at people with six packs; their stomachs are flat, not pushed out.

well if you are using your stomach muscles in any way for a situp it is generally not safe. you're pulling the wrong muscles.

Yes.
If you're pushing your tummy muscles outward instead of holding them in, then you're training your muscles to push outward.
Many exercises can be harmful if you do them incorrectly. This is why form is important.

Yes it is. Not only that, but you can also really hurt your neck if you do them improperly by locking your hands behind your head, and pulling your neck rather than using your stomach muscles.

not true, the only thing that can really happen with sit-ups is if you put to much pressure on your neck you could give yourself a stiff neck.
