There is no way to know for sure without getting a wiring diagram. Hook up the harness into the car, and leave it disconnected from the stereo, use a multimeter on the VDC setting and test for 12-14.4 VDC comin into the wire using a common ground such as your chassis or door frame, provided its bare metal. If you have 12 - 14.4 Volts coming in, then its a power wire. If not, then switch the car ignition on and try it again, if it works then its a switched lead used to turn on your stereo. If you get nothing out of it at all, its probably a speaker wire or power antenna lead, maybe a remote turn on for an amplifier, either way, if you're running your stereo standalone, you should know what it was when you get it thooked up. Hope it helps! Good luck, and any other questions shoot me an email!

It depends on the type of stereo, but usually a red wire is the power from the vehicles ignition. Some stereos use a red wire for a power antenna connection, though blue is the most common color for this wire. If the cable is larger than the other wires, it could be for and external amplifier. Some stereos use red wires for the speakers positive connections. If you don't hook it up, and the stereo doesn't work, then I'd have to say you're talking about the main power supply.
