I'm not trying to start a fight, I just want to see what you, personally, believe about world issues like this.

Farkas, I completely agree with you.

But, I do appreciate the honesty from people who are agreeing or are not. Thanks.

unclewayne, if you are going to take the time to even come to this board, I would have liked if you would have said something other than "it is none of my business".

Ladies, if you are planning on having sex, but don't want the risk of getting pregnant, tell your mate to wear a condom.

Dave, I was raised as a Christian, please don't assume that just because of us "churchys's" religion, we won't agree with the issue of abortion to a certain extent.

Hazel, I applaud you for having both the courage to keep your child at such a young age and to share a personal experience on a public board. You're a brave one. I wish both you and your family the best.

Even though I am a devout Roman Catholic, I can't say that I 100% believe that life begins at the moment of conception. I can't say that I don't believe that is true, either. Regardless, life is sacred to me, and I don't like seeing it treated in a reckless manner.

In general I am against abortions because it's too close to what I know for sure is murder. At the same time, I don't believe they should be made illegal - that would cause more problems than it would solve and cost more lives than it would save. I also could not in good conscience force a woman who has been raped to carry the child. Same with cases where the mother's life is in grave danger. These are cases that are between the woman and God.

The one thing I cannot condone, however, is abortion as an "oops" method of birth control. If a woman has control over her body, then she needs to exercise the control of being responsible about sex and using contraceptives if she does not want to become pregnant. And men don't get off the hook, either. As one man I know once said, "it's a gift, and I always wrap my gifts."

I don't believe in abortion. I think it cruel to snatch away another little one's chance to live just because we're alive. Furthermore, the argument that a fetus is not a person simply does not hold up. It is a human being. It depends on the same things that we do for survival: food, fluids, and oxygen. It has a beating heart and a brain. Furthermore, the fact that it is in a human mother's womb further supports the fact that it is one of us. We looked exactly like that once, and there's no mistake that it is a human. This isn't even personal opinion; science says that this is a live human.
Also, who knows what we're destroying? We could be killing off the greatest minds of tomorrow, who could advance our human race and who have many gifts to give us. There were many times in which an abortion would have seemed to be the best solution. There was a little baby with about five other siblings, a few of whom were blind and/or deaf, or had some sort of defect. The mother and father were poor. Should they abort that baby? If they did, they would have aborted Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest composers in history. There are many instances like these in which it seemed like abortion was the best solution: a raped mother, a poor family. As for the raped mother, she produced Ethel Waters, one of the most renowned jazz singers of the 20th century. If "the best choice" were taken in each of these cases, our race would be deprived of the greatest minds ever produced.
Aside from that, the reason for performed abortions are usually selfish and sick. Eighty percent of abortions are non-terminal, meaning that most woman attempt to abort their children for absolutely selfish reasons. This is little more than malicious homicide. With these facts, I don't understand why anyone would think of legalizing this murder.

It needs to be allowed. Not for just any reason at all, but because there are circumstances in life that would make it almost impossible to have a child.

For example, if I were to get pregnant right now (not possible since he's 2000 miles away but even so), he and I would both be totally screwed.

We live in different countries and are working on the visa to bring me to him (appt on wed with the lawyer). I'm only working part time so how could he possibly take care of a child with 2000 miles distance between us? I know I can't afford it and I definately couldn't live if I had to allow the pregnancy to full term to give it up for adoption. I can barely pay my bills now. If I had to constantly call into work sick because of morning sickness, it would screw me because I need the money so badly. And then forcing my husband to not be able to go through it all with me because he's 2000 miles away....

Pregnancy just simply isn't an option. Not even carrying it to full term. In fact, I can't think of anything worse that could happen short of one of us dying.

I'm not an advocate of late term abortion but I do believe it should be allowed in the first trimester. Until it can survive outside the womb with help its no more than a parasite anyway.

I'm ok with it. I don't like the fact that some people use it as birth control. I think that's wrong. On the other hand, if it were illegal, there would be an increase in back alley abortions with coat hangers. That's much worse. There are also cases of women that will die if they give birth to the child they're carrying. That's an acceptable case to me as well. I don't really agree with the idea, but I think that legal abortion is better than the alternative.

A lot of people seem to think that it's ok in the case of rape, but how is a woman going to prove that she was raped to get pregnant? There's not really a way to prove that. If the law made an exception like that, a woman could just say she was raped in order to get an abortion. That's not a realistic point of view.

It is ending an innocent life. If the mother is in clear danger than it is better for the child to die than to let both die. In all other cases sex should have been avoided and the pregnancy was a consequence of a choice. In the case of rape (or the child being unwanted) the child should be put up for adoption. You can leave an infant in the hospital with a note and there will be no Q's asked(time limit varies from place to place). Abortion is unnecessary when both mother and child are healthy

I just think it is wrong. It has nothing to do with religion. you are killing babies, it is that simple. if you don't want kids don't spread your legs. They say it isn't a baby, but it was suppose to be but you didn't give it a chance. They also say if it is still in the womb it isn't alive. Location doesn't have the luxury of defining life. I saw an abortion that they were giving to a woman in a documentary, the Dr. was performing the abortion and as long as the head was still inside it wasn't murder but if the head came out it was murder. That is just stupid. If you are a little girl who was raped I would understand, but if i was raped(I'm 15) I would still have it and maybe give it up for adoption, because I feel that if I were to abort him/her I would be blaming the baby for my having been raped. People say things that they used birth control and condoms but you know that isn't 100% effective so there is no excuse. So basically deal with the consequences.

We have abortion clinics for the safety of the mother so she doesnt have to go to some backwoods doctor and have this done in a way that could possibly end her life , Im against it Yes , but I know that people are evil in there hearts and will do this any ways , People dont understand the emotions that they are left with the rest of there lifes , but hey its there body and they can do with it what they want same as a prostitute are a crack head ,

Free on demand with an aggressive birth control program to make it needed less. All those people who want to use the coercive power of the state to enforce the narrow tenants of their religions which will force women back to the barbarity of breeding unwanted children, do not want to ever find out how mad we will get if they are successful.

no contraception is 100% effective so i mean that certainly creates a valid point for abortion, as so many have also pointed out i think it is unessacary to make a woman carry the result of a rape to full term , that seems really intelligent considering she'd more then likely resent the child , no 100% proof exists as to when life incarnates it may be at the point of leaving the mother the child is incarnate by Gods mind , none of you know the truth and to justify your pro-life opinion by reference to relgion is both sad and blasphemous , you have no right to judge or interpret what god wants from another person.. you only pass judgement on yourself by doing so

Hello natalie h.. :)

Abortion:

1 : the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus; especially : the medical procedure of inducing expulsion of a human fetus to terminate a pregnancy..

If a baby was not a living being..it could not die.. :(

Many times we hear about it is all about the woman's choice of freedom, after all it is her body..but it is no longer just her body, for where there was but one being..there is now two..

So if there are two beings..why does one have total control over the other..is that freedom of rights, life and pursuit of happiness, to which we ALL are entitled to..

Hippocrates himself (who was not a Christian) said in the original Hippocratic Oath said, doctors should not perform abortions..

What has this world come to, when we kill our own unborn children.. :(

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)
