why is it that when someone asks a question about a dog being outside or that they are having trouble house training it or something like that we get a bunch of dog breeders that answer with snotty remarks like no dog should be outside ect.. well if your so great and love dogs and are so good then y is it that when our roads and shelters are packed full of good and sweet dogs that need homes that you are at home breeding your dogs to add to that? you do it for the money thats y so how can you sit there and say that i should not keep my dog outside even if i pay attention to it during the day have a warm bed for him and lots of food and water? at least i got him from a bad home who was starving him and i am not adding to the thousands of unwanted dogs every day and i saved him from death where so many died today and several will get the gas tomorrow? im not putting anyone down but i am just wondering why you think you can tell me how bad i am when i think your not doing rite either.

see what i mean once again i am judged by keeping my dogs outside... i do have 2 dogs outside together in the same huge yard to run in invisible fence. and they have a huge box with lots of straw that i put in every single day rite after i feed and water them... and guess what i didnt say that i only spen 20 or 30 min a day with them i spend alot of time with them and they do come in for treats and hey i even take them for rides with me to the store. oh we dont have a dog park here so what i do being the meanie that i am is i put them on a long tie and we go walk at the college late in the evening so there is no one else around that way they can run some too without running off and getting lost or hurt (yea i do care about that too) in total i probably spend about 8-10 hrs a day with my dogs,, and at night no they are asleep y would they need me then i am asleep then as well.. and i really dont have anything against breeders personally i just think that before you sit back and judge

me like some of you have in the past i just think that maybe if you were not making puppies every few months to sell as pure breds then maybe the mutts and poor no names sitting in our pounds might have a chance to find a home that is all... every time you see someone ask what kind of dog do i get you hardly ever see someone say get a mutt they are great its alway hey go buy one that cost way more then they do at the pound...

I have a Samoyed and he'd die if kept inside. He's never really comfortable unless it's freezing. Of course, I like the outdoors too. He is not neglected, he's gentle and friendly and as healthy as anything. My vet says keep doing whatever I'm doing. And to be realistic, he sheds enough to keep your house knee-deep in white. Keep your dog cooped up inside if you want, but me and him are going to enjoy the outdoors.

I feel it is fine for SOME dogs to be outside under certain situations. I think NO DOG should give birth outside when it has an owner.
I do breed. NONE of my puppies have EVER been in a shelter. I know where they all are and will take any of them back at any time. It is not the good breeders that are filling the shelters, it is the pet stores, puppy mills, and BYB.
Anyone, or any place that sells to people who are making an impulse buy, or have no knowledge of the breed are ASKING for trouble!
I work at a shelter and see purebred dogs come in all the time. I can also tell you that I have never had one come through that came from a good breeder. Most come from BYB. People had no real clue what they were getting in to, the dog got out of control, and they dumped it. BYB,mills, and pet stores also do not impose a spay/neuter contract on their puppies, so the buyers go right ahead and make more puppies. If you want to blame people for the overcrowding in the shelters, point the finger in the right place!!! It is not the show/hobby/good breeders filling them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is true that most "outdoor" dog became that because they didn't behave, or had accidents. It was a punishment. I have dogs that are outdoors most of the time. We are out with them at least 5 hours a day, or they are with us inside,or in the car, or at the park or training class.......we do not shove them out and at best feed them once a day. There are too many "forgotten" dogs like that. If you got a dog that has too many issues for you to deal with, take it back to where you got it. That is better than shoving it out. At least it can try again to get a home. Shelter dogs are not for everyone. Almost all the dog come with a LOT of baggage. If you can't take it anymore, return it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AGAIN, you are confusing BYB and puppy mills with GOOD breeders. Good breeders DO NOT mass produce puppies every few months. I have NO MORE than ONE litter PER YEAR!!!!!! That litter is produced for a reason...I need another dog, or bit ch for show or working. NOT to fill public demand. Frankly, it cost too much to rear more than one litter per year. I can barely afford the one! It is not for my profit that these puppies are born!! If I keep one, and one is perhaps taken in lieu of a stud fee, that does not leave many left to sell as it is. And real breeders that show and do working events do not have time to rear several litters each year. You cannot leave puppies every weekend to travel to shows!!!!!
If you still think it is REAL and GOOD breeders that are clogging up the shelter, then clearly you have not been volunteering at many!!!! You should have a better clue about all the different kind of "breeders" there are out there! Just look on here!! ANYONE on here asking breeding question IS a BYB or puppy mill. Good breeders already know the answers, or they find them in a CREDIBLE place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you have an issue with dog breeders it seems!
you are always going to get a range of responses, after all you are asking the world!
You could get an answer from an 8 year old school kid, a 14 year old rebellious teen, a 20 year male beer lout, a 35 year old professional marketing manager, a 45 year old checkout operator, a 78 year old senile woman.
of course you're going to get different answers!!
People are totally different!
I would adopt the attitude of "Take what you like, and leave the rest"
U gotta take the bad with the good.
What a boring world it would be if everyone was the same

I am not a breeder, and I do feel for those in pounds... but if we stopped ALL breeding today, in 10 years there would be NO dogs. SoME breeding is necessary.
I fuss at people who have "outdoor dogs" but only because I've seen what it can do. My 1st pittie is one of a litter that is scattered across the base where I live. Brothers and sisters, mom and dad, they're all wonderful dogs, loving, great with kids and other pets, they wouldn't hurt a mole (on purpose... maybe dig em up and want to play... but not purposly hurt them.) Except one. One brother has been kept outside since leaving his mother... and he is awful. A biter, terrorizes the neighborhood kids... The whole litter are fence jumpers, but it is only a bad thing when this guy jumps. I tried to socalize with him when he was younger, but his owner is a jerk and yelled at me. Luckily, the guy is on "probation", one more incident with his dog and he loses him... I just hope he can be re-habilitated.
Outdoor dogs (that *I* know) are heartbroken, lonely, and angry animals.

I've bred several litters, but have yet to actually MAKE any money on the pups. The costs of testing and proving the parents are worthy far outweigh the price of the pups. Especially as I always keep at least one pup per litter, often more. The reason I breed is to add to my dog 'family'.
The 'extra' pups go to homes that have been fully investigated and I keep up-to-date on the pups for their lives, at a minimum with Christmas cards received from the pups' new families or a call from me to them on the pups' birthdays. And on the rare occasion where one of 'my' pups loses their home, they come back to me.
So don't blame me for the dogs in the shelters, the dogs who are being abused. No pup I 'created' is in such a situation.
As for outside dogs...my own dogs live predominantly in kennels. At least two dogs to a kennel, so they have constant companionship and the ability to cuddle and play with another living creature. In addition to there being 10 - 14 dogs in a close area, providing more companionship.
My dogs also come into the house on a rotating basis, with each of them generally spending two nights inside a week.
Our dogs also are worked on an almost daily basis, with at least one human spending 2 - 4 hours training them. They attend weight pull events and dog shows, visit nursing homes, go sledding and to training classes and so on. They don't simply spend hour after hour in a kennel.
Having a single dog outside is WAY different, especially if this dog is never allowed inside. No matter how sound of a dog house they have, being alone for most of every day of the week isn't healthy for them. This is a dog who has no constant companion, which for a pack animal like a dog is detrimental to their mental well-being.
You say you pay attention to your dog during the day. How about at night? And how much actual time do you spend with your dog outside of providing food and water? 10 minutes? 20 minutes? An hour? What does your dog do for companionship for the rest of each and every day?
The few minutes a day that most people actually spend with their outside dogs just isn't adequate to their mental and emotional needs. Your dog might be in a better situation than he was previously, but IMO, no dog should be outside alone 24/7.
