i have the whole furnished part of the basement as my room. its like a studio apartment minus a bathroom and a kitchen. what can i do that isn't expensive to get the most use out of this room. its seperated into roughly three parts. right now ones my room. ones where my computer is, and one just has a sofa in it. and it has to be plenty cost effective cuz my mom is a tightwad at times.

when i was young i wanted my own room but our apartment was only two bedrooms so i wanted to move in the basement. I had my parents buy some paint and painted the cement brick of the basement.(because we couldnt put up drywall. and found a piece of carpet to cover the floor and had shelves that divided the room from the washer/dryer. it was kind of cozy. but a little chilly.

If you want it to look more like a studio apt., and less of a big bedroom, visually divide but coordinate the room's 3 areas without making it all look too small. Section off your sleeping area with ceiling hung tie-back curtains you can open or close. Pick patterned sheets with matching solids and buy an extra sheet or 2 that match your bedding to make them from - simple and inexpensive.
To slightly block or hide your computer area, buy or make a simple 3 panel hinged screen to stand up around it. If you make it, use the same sheet material or a coordinate to stretch inside the panel frames.
Tie the 3 areas together with matching fabric window curtains, and toss cushions on your sofa. Make your bed more of a day bed / sofa by pushing the long side against the wall and fill the back with different shapes and sizes of matching cushions to sit back on.
Lastly, choose 2 or 3 colours found in your patterned sheets and play with these colours from one area to using them as your colour pallette. All this will define but coordinate these 3 areas. To recap, all you will be buying is:
1. new bedding plus a couple of extra sheets to use as fabric.
2. curtain rods
3. a folding stand up screen or make the frame
4. toss cushions
5. paint
You can add area rugs, artwork, greenery, lamps etc. as you choose.
Have fun and happy decorating
