The manual makes no reference to wiring connections. The diagram on the appliance is not clear as to what should be done. A web search suggests that the two live leads (brown and black) should simply be connected together. Is thiscorrect? I have spoken to AEG customer services. They said they would ring me later! So far, no joy.

Your hob would appear to not be a uk spec model, as the uk does not use two phases for domestic appliances. UK hobs normally are supplied with no cable attached. Happogiri is correct, but has no reason to be so rude in his answer, must have a chip on his shouder about something. I would hesitate to advise you without inspecting the connections first, although it would seem to be designed to connect to two phases and one neutral, in which case linking the brown and black would be the possible solution.

1 If you don't know then you should not even attempt it.
2 If in doubt then read the bloody instructions.
3 I'm an electrician and I've made a good living out of plonkers like you who tinker around with things that they know naff all about. I charge **** loads to put it right when they blow it up.
4 The hob is obviously designed for a multi phase supply ( not normally found in British houses)If you are determined to kill yourself then check the total rating of the hob and if your power supply is big enough just join the two lives together.

One Live will be a feed which is a direct feed, the other will be from a switched feed. If you are lost in what I am saying then I would not bother and get a sparky to do it. The current in a hob could kill you.

You pick up the phone and get a professional to do it.
Not cheap but life saving methinks.
