Allergies are very common in white dogs and cats. You would need to have the dog tested to find out what it is allergic to, then it could be treated.

Definately go to the vet. I had a similar problem, and then she got a Staph infection... which is not unusual when allergies are involved. Change of food, and 3 weeks of antibiotics have made her look much better!

Avoid corn, soy, wheat... other common food alergies in dogs include beef and chicken

I also use Benadryl and/or Hydrocortizone spray for instant relief. And an anti bacterial doggy shampoo.

(oddly enough I had my girl on Nutro too- But I am not blaming Nutro.. it was the beef she didn't tolerate)

I would ask my vet to do allergy testing or reccomend a veterinary dermatologist. Until you find what specifically he is allergic to, you are going down a long road of trial & error - very hard on your poor suffering dog! I have had 2 white Boxers, but neither had skin allergies. They did get the typical Boxer hives from time to time, which I gave Benadryl pills for relief. I fed them both only Pro Plan (Chicken & Rice or Beef & Rice) & they had beautiful skin, coats & muscle tone. They did not get scraps or leftovers, and only Iams or Bill Jac dog biscuits on occassion. They were healthy & lived till 10 1/2, pretty old for Boxers.

i have a white dog and he has really sensitive skin, luckily we have 2 vets in the family.. he is allergic to fleas also, (Contact Dermatitus) If he gets bitten by any fleas he goes nuts!! his eyes swell and he scratches till he is raw & has bald spots. Purina Sensitive Skin & Stomach Formula dog food helps alot! Also we give him Benedryl and Omega 3 Fatty acid pills. This has been a life saver for us and our pup!! You can always ask your vet for allergy tests, but they can be costly! try the Benedryl if nothing else, it makes our dog a little groggy for the 1st few doses, the he goes right back to normal! he is miserable without it!

Has he been checked for red mange? My son's english bulldog was doing the same thing the vet diagnosed him with red mange. She said that he was born with it and something he ate or came into contact with irritated it enough to bring it out. it's very common in white and short haired dogs, but all types of dogs can be affected with it.
