I went to a doctor today and he was so mean!! I have had trouble breathing and I have GERD. He laughed at me and says, "Do you want to die?!" I am NOT a hyphochondriac. In fact, in the past I was so, so healthy!! I might have the trouble breathing due to anemia and the GERD. He was so mean that I told him that I never want to have to go to a doctor again! Is this a common phenomenon for doctors to be this mean and judgemental when you have certain symptoms?? I'm sure there are nice doctors out there. But I'm interested in knowing if there are many that are this uncompassionate.

Unfortunately it is common for physicians to be judgmental and insensitive and I am very sorry to hear of your experience. I am 55 years old - I have been in medicine for 30 years - I saw a physician for the 1st time in 2005 and I will never go to another. Nonetheless I am able to prescribe for myself and you are not only not able to prescribe you are not in a position to diagnose so you will need to find a 'real' physician. Try calling your County Medical Society - report the physician you saw (you may also report them to your state - the county will be able to give you an 800 #) - and ask the County Medical Society for suggestions about someone who will actually listen to you and care. One final comment is to remember my aphorism: compassion without knowledge soothes but does not cure while knowledge without compassion cures but does not heal although in your case you received neither. I wish you the very best of health and luck.

Be reassured that there are many, many nice doctors out there who listen kindly to their patients and treat them with respect. Your doc doesn't sound like he was one of them. His behavior wasn't really appropriate to me. If he doesn't take you seriously, it's time to find a new doctor. Try asking friends who they have for a doctor and if they're happy with their care. That would be a good place to begin. Be assertive and don't let this guy demean you!! Remember, the doctor who graduated last in his class is called doctor too!

I saw a doc like this several years ago in the ER when I was having breathing issues. He ignored my complaints because he thought I was a hypochondriac like my mom!! I'm not and I did end up in the hospital with a rare form of bronchitis.. I wasn't very pleased with him to say the least.

Good luck!! Courage!!

PS. I have GERD also. With asthma (lucky me?)

You may consult the doctor for chest diseases. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has recently been recognized as a common trigger of asthma, possibly via esophageal acid-induced reflex bronchoconstriction or by microaspiration of acid. (Merck:- see Asthma)
Certain foods and lifestyle are considered to promote gastroesophageal reflux:
Coffee, alcohol, and excessive amounts of Vitamin C supplements are stimulants of gastric acid secretion. Taking these before bedtime especially can promote evening reflux. Calcium containing antacids are in this group[3].
Foods high in fats and smoking reduce lower esophageal sphincter competence, so avoiding these tends to help, as well. Fat also delays emptying of the stomach.
Having more but smaller meals also reduces the risk of GERD, as it means there is less food in the stomach at any one time.
avoid eating for 2 hours before bedtime
avoid soft drinks
avoid chocolate and peppermint
avoid spicy foods
avoid acidic foods like oranges and tomatoes (however, they are okay when fresh.)
avoid cruciferous vegetables: onions, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts
milk and milk-based products contain calcium and fat, so should be avoided before bedtime
Please see the web pages for more details on Breathing difficulty and GERD.

Your symptoms are not in your head. When some doctors don't know the answers, they put the problem on you and blame it on your psychological health instead of just admitting they don't know. Pride, I guess. Find a doctor who can be a good health coach and will listen to you and answer your questions. It's your body, you know what you're talking about.

I'm sorry you were treated this way. Most doctors I know treat their patients with respect and good bedside manner. Don't let this guy prevent you from being treated. Find a doctor you do like and go to him/her. Get recommendations from your friends who have had good experiences.

Not all physicians act this way.

Used if you're no longer quite close to to the fellow or they're older than you(exhibits comprehend/politeness). it truly is maximum immediately ahead. kun = maximum as a rule used at the same time as refering to a guy you're very close to to. Like a close pal or boyfriend. chan = used between ladies who're quite close. Or youthful girls. It provides you cuteness to the call. sama = Basicly ability lord.

He is almost a god in his head, wich makes you tiny and insugnifient. His reaction towards you, was become you who had some brains, dared to respond to your condition, with intelegence
