I know there are some, but who out there celebrates Christmas and isn't a Christian? If you do celebrate it, why? Is it greed? "Just another holiday to get presents." I just honestly want to know why.

I do know that Christmas is not just a Christian holiday, and I do know that no one knows the exact date of Jesus's birth. Do not treat me as if I were a child thank you. I am just curious of other's reasons. I celebrate Jesus's birth and spend time with my family on Christmas.

I celebrate Christmas, even though I'm not Christian. I guess I do it because my family always has. That, and the fact that as corny as it sounds, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! I love the WHOLE season, Thanksgiving - New Year's Day. All the lights and trees and turkeys, I don't understand why someone wouldn't! No, for me it's not about presents, it's about the childish joy it brings to my heart and soul! So, there it is I celebrate for all the corny reasons!

This is only the 5th time this question has been asked today. So, a copy and paste of one of my old answers for you...

Do you really think that Atheists and non-Christians celebrate Christmas? Or could it be that they're celebrating having one day a year with ALL their family because everyone has the day off, they get to eat great food, and open presents? Or maybe it's because Christmas falls only three days after Yule which many Pagans celebrate with family, good food, and opening presents and have for millenia longer than Christianity has been in existance?

That couldn't be a possibility, could it?

I think the question is, why do Christians celebrate Christmas at the same time as Yule when Christ wasn't even born in December?

That’s a fine question. I’m agnostic (second generation) and I celebrate Christmas because it’s a fun holiday. My favorite part of Christmas has always been decorating. I LOVE to decorate. I also love to wrap presents. I do a very intricate job.

I also like to the family get together. You know, everyone cooks and I like to make twice bakes sweet potatoes (I make them every year).

The Salvation Army is out that time of year too. I always get a bunch of quarters so that I can put money in ALL of the buckets. They always say “God Bless You” but I don’t mind too much. I know that really just means “thank you”.

It’s an exciting and fun time of year.

Also, I celebrate it because my parents do and their parents before them.

I get all warm and gushy inside.

There are many other reasons.

I even like to put up the Christmas tree (a pagan tradition).

I hope this helps :)

For a lot of people it's just tradition or a special time to spend with family and friends. And of course the gifts.
But I celebrate the birth of Jesus

Dear, You need to do a little research and you will be asking yourself why christians celebrate Yule, a pagan holy day from which almost all the "christmas" traditions come.
You do know that Jesus wasn't really born on Dec 25 don't you?

Your question does suggests that the only GOOD people on earth are Christians and the rest of us greedy b@st@rds couldn't possibly understand that Christmas is about good will and family. This could explain the hostile reponses that you are recieving. I'm sure that we must have misunderstood your intent because a Christian wouldn't make such an antagonistic, hateful, uneducated and self-righteous comment, would they?

I do not claim Christianity and my mother is Wiccan. Holidays are about family, not gifts.

Not all holidays are Christian based. as a matter of fact alot of them are Christian rip offs of Pagan holidays.

Christmas has become an American staple...like Halloween.

I believe in God, and DO NOT celebrate Xmas. Xmas is not about the birth of Jesus (Jesus wants us to remember his death, not his birth) Xmas is Corporate America screwing the masses into purchasing crap to continue the decent into debt.

I could care less about the gifts. But my family would be mortified if they ever found out I was a rationalist/ humanist/ atheist/ whatever you want to call it. They don't need the burden of fearing I'm damned to hell.
