You seem very honest and your question very non judgmental....
I agree with what I am told becuase God is the author, he IS the law. Meaning... he is the author of happiness. He gives us the rules to obey becuase they give us the greatest happiness.
For me, when I dont follow them, even one of them, it usually brings me unhappiness or troubles. I hate unhappiness and troubles so I do what He tells me so that I have the most happiness in this life I can obtain.
People often think that commandments are to hinder your freedom of choice and control you. On the contrary, they are guidelines to give you the most happiness and peace.
I like to liken this subject to say....if the world would keep just ONE commandment, say no sex before marriage...... think of how that would affect the world, the world economy... there would be no abortions, there woudl be no parentless children, there would be little welfare, oh gosh.. its endless. And that is just ONE of the things He has asked us to not do.
He created us, he created the world...thus, He knows what will bring us the most Joy. "men are that they may have joy".
I choose the right so I can have peace and happiness....... lasting happiness, not the fleeting happiness that the world offers. Very different.
Take care.

It boils down to moral authority. Authority is the ultimate final topic in Christian debate.
Since God doesn't have an email address or phone number, He gave us a Teaching Authority called the Church, made up of sinful human beings, but guided and supervised by the Holy Spirit to teach us on matters of faith and morals. Tricky stuff like human cloning, or conception in laboratories, or certain stem cell experiments we know are immoral. Human life becomes a commodity. That is wrong. Who says so? We look to the Church, because those things are not in the bible.
Personally, I don't claim to follow every single thing I am supposed to. It's not a question of disagreement, I agree with everything the Catholic Church teaches. I am a human being the same as you are, and I make mistakes too. But rebellion is not the same as weakness, and I don't expect others to be what I cannot be. That would be hypocracy.
How do I live with that? My faith walk is a journey, not an arrival. I will "arrive" when I am dead.

i experience what they're concerning is the actual shown truth that Western morality codes are in accordance to Judeo-Christian preparation which include the ten commandments. there have been many cultures for the time of the international which failed to percentage even this common theory of "do no damage" so there is a few advantage the declare that they are unique. in case you made a more advantageous specified exam of your beliefs you should probably discover many different parts of morality that you percentage with Christians and Jews. although, the guy's declare that you stole Christian morals is both unhappy and laughable. If, as we believe, our morals were given with techniques from God with the help of organic revelation to the human race, they don't and by no skill did belong entirely to Christians. i ought to assert that you've embraced component to that morality, no matter if you include the source or not. the guy might want to were satisfied to discover elementary floor with you as a replace of insult you. I experience sorry about a fellow believer replaced into so rude and callous to you.

The Bible was written by men in a different time period. What was written as law was written when people needed to reproduce, be more careful of disease, and women needed to be at home to have children and take care of them while men watched the flocks. Now society and science are at such a point that we do not have to do these things. I do not think god himself had any problem with gays, eating pork, or women working outside the home, but at the time the men who wrote the bible had to keep people under control..

It's not our place to pick and choose what we feel is right or wrong in the Bible to suit our individual lifestyle. God is God. He makes his rules for a reason. It's no different than if you decide to take up a martial art. You will have to obey your "master" and follow the rules or you will not learn or advance or succeed in your quest for a black belt. No one questions their "master" when striving for that goal. Why would one question the one true master of the universe God Himself on something as important as an eternal decision?

I DON'T disagree with anything that is wrong according to the Bible. If I did, I wouldn't be able to call myself a Christian, or I might have to reconsider just WHERE that idea that God was wrong on something came from.
I understand that everything that the Bible says is wrong is for a good reason. It's simply better to not lie, steal, or commit adultery, just to name a few.

I am a Christian and there have been many times that I disagreed with God. If a Christian says they never disagreed with God, they are a lie. To make a long statement short people need to know that God loves us will not set us up to fail. The hard thing is for us to trust and believe that. Remember that God doesn't disappoint us we disappoint Him.

If you had read the gospels, you would not need to ask such a question. Surely you heard about the teachings of Jesus about loving and forgiving each other?
About not committing sin (errors) in the first place.
If you do not engage in illicit sex, then you would not need to visit an abortion clinic. If you abstain from lying, cheating, physical abuse of others, then you would not fear a prison term.
However I would be very interested to know how did you arrive at the premise that murder is wrong.

Believe me , I am an Christian and sometimes I even question God , I know he is there but even theologians study the Bible and question his existence , It is a human instinct. When I see that God has picked me off of the ground and he tottaly changed my life around and when I know I would probably be on the streets without him , I don't question him, I say God if you can change my life and change the lives around me I know that everything you say is true , that is how I believe .

There is plenty that I question in the bible. I try to live as Jesus lived with love and compassion for all of creation. It's always a challenge.
