you may have a dependency on laxatives. Always check with your doctor first. Could be many things, like your gallbladder, your diet, stress, there are alot of issues. Best to seek medical advice with this one. Don't always jump at cancer as being the problem, I know that is hard to do, I am a cancer survivor and the first couple of years I knew every little thing was my cancer is back. You should be evaluated by a physician. I only say that because the causes of constipation form such a long list that no one could accurately address this question online without additional information, laboratory testing, and possible further tests. And incidentally, laxative abuse in and of itself can cause constipation. If you have been using laxatives for a long time, that's a far more likely cause of your problem than colon cancer. Again, I would strongly recommend you see a physician.

Are you taking any medications? Many will cause constipation. Opiates, like Vicodin or Oxycontin will clog you up. So will some anti-depressants, such as Cymbalta. I take all of these and have the same problem. I usually end up drinking magnesium citrate ($2.00 a bottle) at your local pharmacy. This gets me regular for a few weeks. If your not taking any meds ask your doctor. Good Luck.

Could be anything from a diet lacking in fiber, to not enough water, to irritable bowel syndrome. Cancer isn't the first thing that came to my mind, but you should make an appointment with your doctor to find out what it is.

Are you on medications of any kind?? Medication especially paid medications can cause constipation. My pain meds do.

I take stool softeners daily (not the same as laxatives) and drink a glass of prune juice every day to keep things, moovin, moovin, moovin!!

I think it is really a sign of constipation. Use these simple solutions to try to get going, there is a herbal tea at health food stores called "smooth moves" that my DR.
recommended.

Good Luck

it could be a sign of many things-dehydration, inactivity, and improper diet are the most common. try drinking lots of water, snacking on fiber rich foods- raw vegetables and prunes are excellent, and getting at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity a day, and see if that helps. also, your body becomes dependent on laxatives if used over time. as you improve your diet, start weaning yourself off of any stimulant laxatives. a fiber laxative like metamucil is ok to use long term. if you are over 40 or have abdominal pain perhaps you should schedule a colonoscopy.

I dont' think so, but you need to get more fiber in your diet and drink more water. Your body is becoming reliant on the laxatives to help you move things along. Stop taking them for a few days and get in more water and fiber, you should see a difference
