I understand that hitting a dog with your car CAN be accidental, and I do not understand why people continue driving, after something like that occurs. I understand it scares them, but I wish they would think about what they'd want someone to do, if their dog got hit by a car.

I'm sorry for your loss.

It's a real shame that there's people out there in this world that have no regard for the lives of other's pets. I mean, accidents happen, but one should do what they can to help an animal that gets hit, especially a pet. I mean, the least they could have done was knocked on your door and mentioned what happened. I have actually witnessed someone hit a dog right in front of me and they just kept on going. If I'd have been older and a little wiser, I'd have noted their license plate. I don't know that anything could have been done anyway, but I would have felt a bit better had I been able to identify the person who hit the dog to the dog's owner. I was really appalled. I mean, how can you hit an animal and sleep at night knowing that you did nothing for it after the fact? I am so sorry for your dog. Mine got hit by a car once too, of course, the person who hit her did not stop. It happened right at the end of my driveway and my only knowledge of it happening was hearing her whining from my kitchen. She now has a steel plate in her left leg, but she runs around like it never happened. I feel so lucky that she lived through that and I don't know what I would have done had I been in your position. Good luck to you....and may the worst of luck happen to the person who did that to your dog.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. Many years ago my husband had a dog that was an an escape artist, too, and he dug out of yard in 5 minutes. My daughter found him hours later laying on the side of the road after he had been hit and killed by a car. What is worse, the Ba$tard that hit him, had the nerve to take off off the dog's collar after running him over, like it was his trophy. *%#@*&^# (cursing)

Bandit now is buried on the side of my house. For some strange reason, the prettiest flowers started growing there for a couple of years, and I never planted any.

May your dog rest in peace. I'm sure she's having a good time playing with Bandit and all of my other sogs at trhe The Rainbow Bridge.

DIT TO ADD:

And no, I don't think you're being mean. You're being human.

When I was little I was outside with my parents (I was only like 7years old) and I had my little black kitten with me. She was playing in the yard. She ran into the road with the Neighbors kitten (they were brother and sister) playing with something on the road. I was walking out to them as a man drove by and swerved to hit my kitten right in front of me! It killed her on impact. Some people have not hearts. I am very sorry for your loss. You are not being mean, what on earth makes you think that? Sadly, there is not much you can do. Unless you know who hit your dog. Even then what is the point? The people who hit the dog might get a fine. If ever found.

I am so very sorry for your loss!
and, yes, the person deserves the worst luck, as it is terrible to leave the scene when a dog is hit.
My pup pushed out the window screen and was hit by a car, while I was just gone a few minuutes..When I got home, the neigboring businessman was waiting there to tell me my dog was at the hospital..The person who hit him was still there and so comforting..My dog made it, just fine, after a long recovery..but he wouldn't have lived if he had been left at the side of the road..I bless that driver every day!

I am very sorry to hear that this happened. Legally speaking, where I live, if the dog is out on the street and is hit by a car the owner is liable because the dog should not be out on the streets and could cause a wreck which could not only endanger or kill the dog but the people in the car and whomever they may hit swerving to miss it could be hurt or killed as well. It is not morally right to hit a dog and go on. Dogs get out sometimes even when owners are careful.
Very sorry to hear that happened to your dog. I am sure you must be beside yourself with grief over the loss.

When I was younger I came out of my house and found my pup laying dead by my front door. I still have no clue who hit it. I knew he had been hit cuz there was footprints a drips of blood coming from the road to my house. I lived on a deadend street so I have an idea. But I was horrified. That was my hiking buddy.:( Sorry that had to happen to you. But remember on the day of judgement the animals that were mistreated will be there to tell there story.

I am sorry you & your dog had this tragedy befall you. It makes me wonder about how we can consider ourselves superior beings when we can do a thing like hit a dog and just drive on...such sad commentary on the human race. You may find this story interesting - I have even posted it on my 360 blog. It hit me so hard, I cry every time I read it: http://www.citybeat.com/2006-07-12/livingoutloud.shtml

I'm so sorry for your loss. People like that do not understand that a pet is a member of your family. Ask around, see if anybody saw the vehicle and report it. I don't know if the police can do anything, but it's worth a try.

where I live it is illegal to hit an animal and just leave it there. The person was supposed to report it....anyway, I would just call your local animal control and law enforcement to make official reports. Maybe they will never catch the guy that hurt your dog, but please make the reports anyways!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Take Care
