I'm 20 years old and literally had no zits throughout highschool. Now that I hit 20, I have very painful cystic acne. The pimples are very hard and never get a white head, but they hurt, get very large, and very red. I cannot keep going to work looking like this.

Also, the worst thing is, I have a certain spot on my right cheek where a very large one will appear, but then after about a month, it will dissapear, but my skin will stay very hard and sensative to the touch, and even as long as 6 months later, it will arise again, in the SAME exact spot on my cheek until it goes away again. I don't have insurance so I'm pretty sure going to the dermatologist is out of the question here. But i'm desperate..please help.

it must be very hard to cope with a problem that effects your health and looks and i hope you become well soon
the real solution would be to get prescription medications which are costly as well as routine blood tests if you are given certain oral meds
you can try neutrogena products with benzoyl peroxide or differen gel ( i don't know if you need a prescription for it where you live)that may relieve symptoms, you will have to wear sunscreen and moisturize your skin as most acne meds are drying and increase photo sensitivity
stronger meds will need prescription
try applying cotton or gauze pads with warm water to the pimples
some times acne is because of a change in hormone levels so if you can can go to a gp or free clinic please do so you need to do something and fast

you definitely need to see a dermatologist. see if your place of work has health insurance for you. if not, call the dermatologist you want to see and ask them about paying your bill a little at a time.

You maybe able to find a dermatologist who uses a "sliding-scale".....that means she/he will charge according to what you can pay.

The kind of acne you're describing could be an allergy.
