Im orignaly from america and now moved to the uk, im just begining to do my christmas baking, AND it seems like all my cookie recipies call for shortening back home i used crisco, but ive been up and down every isle in ASDA and TESCO and can not find a similar product anywhere, when i asked an employee they didnt have a clue what i was talking about. I know a lot of american products have a uk counterpart im sure there must be something similar to crisco over here does anyone know what the products called and in what general isle i might find it?

The vegetable shortening are available from supermarkets, health food stores. I you can not find in health food store then try at you local fish and chips shops, they use it frying fish. The other name of vegetable shortening is solidified vegetable oil or Banaspati Ghee ( Indian name for vegetable shortening)

In the butter and margerine section of any supermarket, you can find veggie shortening. Stork S.B. is just that - a cooking margerine (what that's called over here). You can always use Flora or Vitalite margerines for cooking and baking, as well as spreading!

In the event that it's a fruit they have seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.
