Yes, the prospect of heaven is much more attractive than the notion of ourselves ceasing to exist once our brains stop functioning. However, Atheists do not believe in what's most pleasing--they believe only in what they think is true.

The laws of thermodynamics state that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but that it simply recycles and is converted from one form to another. So the energy that we use to live must do something after we die. My guess is that the kinetic energy is turned into potential energy which is then stored in our dead cells. Then when our bodies are decomposed it becomes it becomes the fuel for which ever organism consumes it. So I guess we can all be assured that we will live on forever as part of nature's ecological cycle. I'm sure that's not the afterlife most people imagine or desire, but it seems to be the most probable.

I doubt it. The possibility of heaven is made by man obviously. We are pretty greedy to believe we, not including animals are the center of the universe and thus we get to go to a special place where we live forever. The whole concept is man made. Do you believe other religions except yours are made by man? If you do, than its logical to believe your religion is man made too. This whole dogmatic thing is common among religios people. Atheism could also be put into that category but I think atheism is not a religion. Its is a neutral point of view based on common sense.

The possibility of heaven is indeed better than nothing at all, but then we have the problem of which religion to choose. Even if you choose a religion and try to follow it, wouldn't God know if you really didn't believe? Religion is BS.

It might feel warm and squishy to think there is a heaven out there, but I think the truth feels the best of all.
I, personally, believe in a life beyond this physical realm.

I have met a number of atheists who claim to believe in an afterlife.
Probably the majority do not.
However they would answer you: "preferring to have an afterlife doesn't make one happen".

Nope we're just dead after our lives. And heaven is a NICER belief, but I'm not willing to believe it just because it is a NICE thing to believe... it's not going to happen just because you believe it hard enough.

it depends on the individual. it is likely that they see no point in heaven, afterlife, etc. so of course to them, those things may not even exist. afterlives usually depend on some "greater force".
