No, nothing you can do about it except stay away from it. Also, it's really important to tell your nurses if you go to the hospital that you are allergic to shellfish. This means you are also allergic to beta-dine (iodine), which is what I'd clean your wound or surgical site with.
Be on the lookout for more food allergies you may acquire as an adult. For example, if you are sensitive to bananas or pineapples, tell them you are allergic to latex as well. (Latex is found everywhere in the hospital setting!)
Sorry for the long answer......I like to be thorough.

Then it may not be the seafood you're allergic to. Maybe it's what chemicals they are using either on the seafood or in the seafood.
Sorry to say, there is nothing you can take to suppress the allergy. Are you allergic to iodine and eggs? How about sulfur drugs? If so, then you are allergic to shellfish. If not, then it's PROBABLY the chemicals they use.
Make sure you have benadryl around in case you do have an allergic reaction to any of the above.
Good luck.

You may love shrimp, but I would just recommend staying away from it.
My Mother is allergic, which she developed a few years back.
Couldn't figure out why she was breaking out in hives.
While in the hospital they did something w/ iodine (that is also found in certain fish) and she almost died.
She ended up in intensive care for almost a week.
You have to be extremely carefull.
A mouth full of food isn't worth possibly your life.
Ask your doctor to be sure, they may say it's o.k. if you take benadryl, Not sure.
Untill you ask a medical prof. don't eat the stuff.

Nope. Nothing to suppress it. Don't even try because it is possible to get worse. Just stay away from it. Honestly, it's not worth your life. It is so normal to develop allergies in adulthood, so don't think that because you ate it years ago you will be o.k. It is posssible to go from a mild reaction to a severe reaction quickly. I hope you got tested and carry an EpiPen

No. It's common to develop allergies later than childhood. Stay away from it. Shellfish allergy is one of the worst allergic reactions you can have.

Not unless you can find someway to counter the iodine.. that is what causes the allergy reaction. The iodine that is in the shellfish I guess they absorb it from the seawater in great quantities.

i have the same problem. I love sea food but will die if i eat it. Nothing can stop a food allergy. Sometimes if you do not eat it for a while your body can tolerate it again in a few years
