You cannot marry in the UK unless you (1) are a national of an EU/EEA/Swiss country, (2) otherwise have the right to live and work in the UK (i.e., work permit or unlimited leave to remain; or else a visiting forces or diplomatic status) or (3) have a "visa for marriage" or Home Office permission to marry.

You should be able to get such a visa or Home Office approval to marry an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen, but it might be easier (and it certainly will be quicker) to go abroad to marry. (A court has found the new rules a violation of the Human Rights Act 1998, but this is on appeal and the rules are still being enforced.)

You could marry a Swiss national in the Republic of Ireland or in any other country (in Europe or elsewhere) and she could then apply at any British diplomatic mission for you to have a free and gratis EEA Permit to live and work in the UK.

As far as I know it is not possible that you can marry with a visiting visa and become resident in the UK. You have to leave the country and then apply for a new visa and you have to prove that you have capital and a job lined up in the UK. I know it from a friend. He is very qualified but could not do it to marry his UK fiance.

My understanding is that BOTH of you would need to have permanent residency rights in the UK to be allowed to get married here, or else you would need to apply for permission from the Home Office - expensive, usually refused, and the don't refund your fee if they refuse you - or you would have to apply for a spouse visa, again likely to be refused.

Your girlfriend, as an EU national, has residency rights, but you, with a visitor visa, do not.

A much better option would be to get married in Spain, or another EU country, or in Egypt, but check out the regulations of each country first, for example with their embassy.

Once married, you would have the right to accompany your wife in the UK; there is a residence permit you can apply for as the spouse of an EU national, which would allow you to work.

Check

http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/applying/applicationforms/

in particular form COA and form EEA 2.

While you are in the UK, you and your girlfriend should go together to a Law Centre or other registered immigration advisor for a free advice session so that you both clearly understand what you are getting into. And PLEASE be totally honest with your girlfriend about your reasons for getting married!!!

Good luck!

Spanish? if she from Spain, i believe Spain is part of the European Union!!!
EU citizenship offers certain rights and privileges within the EU; in many areas EU citizens have the same or similar rights as native citizens in member states.

No, it doesn't give you the right to UK residency. Try Egypt or Spain.

YES YOU CAN MARRUY HER, BUT IT DOESN'T GIVES YOU THE RESIDENCE SINCE NONE OF YOU ARE FROM THE UK AND YOU HAVE A VISITOR VISA.
