The list is '100 Most Influential People', not the greatest man in humanity. There is a big difference.

quote:''Prophet of Islam; conqueror of Arabia; Hart recognized that ranking Muhammad first might be controversial, but felt that, from a secular historian's perspective, this was the correct choice because Muhammad is the only man to have been both a founder of a major world religion and a major military/political leader. More''

That was the opinion of one man, if he can write, it doesn't mean he is right.

A great man will never own another human being. Muhammad was a slave owner.

New Catholic asked a good question. If Michael H. Hart thinks that Muhammad was such a great person as you want to think! why didn't he convert? Because the topic is about influential not greatest. You are reading into what you want to see, not what is there.
What is wrong of being Influential! is that a bad thing!?

Some will say anything.

Why does the non Muslim that thinks Muhammad was the greatest man in humanity not convert to Islam?

That is an even better question.

Peace!
