I recently started work in a Borders cafe. I have never done food service work before and all the dish washing and cleaning has exposed my hands to some very harsh chemicals. In addition, it is winter here. As a result my hands are very rough, dry and cracking. I don't have a great deal of money to spend, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any homeopathic treatments, using common household ingredients that would not cost much, that would be good for relieving my hands, and softening them up?

Mix together a tbsp of sugar, and 2 tbsp of olive or almond oil. Over the sink, rub the scrub into hands and skin for a couple minutes. Rinse under warm water until sugar is gone. Do not use soap. Pat dry and allow the oils to penetrate the skin naturally. (Do not use salt, it burns!!!) Sugar will also add hydration.
Avoid extreme temperatures, even HOT water, or not wearing gloves outside. Try applying lotion after washing hands, look for one that has a silicone in it, to provide a barrier between your hands and the chemicals.
If skin is cracking and bleeding, use polysporin as a hand lotion. I have, and it feels so much better!

I bartended for years and had the same problems. I purchases a paraffin machine/tub. You can purchase them at Target stores and they are alittle cheaper this time of year because they are good gifts. It will run you about $30-$50. Just heat it up, dip your hands in, pull them out, dip again, pull out. Get a friend/spouse to place ziplock bags over your hands and put rubberbands/hair bands around your wrist. Sit like this for about 20 minutes, take off the bags and peel the wax off. You will feel a difference immediately and notice a long term in a couple weeks, Try to do atleast once a day. Helped me, hope it helps you!

The best thing for those hands and doesn't cost much at all is before going to bed at night take Vaseline and put it all over your hands and then put rubber gloves on the exam ones or the ones you buy for doing dish and sleep with them on and you will never believe it the hands will be smooth as a baby's butt.

You could try using either baby oil or vaseline on your hands and then putting your hands in saran wrap or plastic bag for about an hour. I used to work in a hospital and the rubber gloves made a mess of our hands too. We used to use Udder cream, that we got from a feed store. We figured if it worked on cows it might be good for us. It was. Worked real good.

Just get a good, quality rough healing lotion and some of those overnight cotton gloves. Slather on the lotion, put on the gloves, go to bed!

Use a non-scented lotion. Sometimes the chemicals in the scents can just make it worse. Also Vaseline works very well, too.
