I'm looking for the pathophysiological reason why hypokalaemia causes constipation. For example, does it reduce gut motility, or increase water reabsorption from, the gut?

Potassium is the predominant intracellular cation while sodium predominates in the extracellular space. The sodium-potassium pump is important in keeping the ionic gradient of these two cations.Electric stimuli changing this gradient sets up action gradient causing gut muscularis to contract. Any condition that causes the body to lose potassium e.g severe diarrhea reduces extracellular potassium first ,then intracellular potassium moves out to replace the loss leading to intracellular hypokalaemia interfering with gut muscle action gradient. When hypokalaemia develops sodium ions moves across the gut cell membrane to replace the potassium ions in the cell . As sodium diffuses into the cell , water molecules are bound to the cation resulting in increased water reabsorption from the gut.

Do you actually have epilepsy? I imagine seizures can cause psychosis because of a disruption in your neurochemistry. Psychosis is a very broad term. It would be more helpful to know exactly what you are experiencing (a break from reality? hallucinations? delusions?). Psychosis as with almost every disorder has to do with ineffective neurochemistry. Typically one or more of the neurotransmitters or chemicals in your brain are not being properly released (either too much or too little) causing mental illness. This can be caused by external (drugs, medication, environmental toxins) or internal factors(biologic, genetic). If you are having these issues, it is unlikely that you can fix this on your own. You definitely need to talk to your health care provider, a psychiatrist is probably best, and they can figure out the appropriate solution which is likely medication.

hypokalemia affects smooth muscle function so it likely slows motility.
