I would like to see just how the cars would run if Nascar let the teams take the plates off for a race. With the plates you just sit there and wait for the "Big One"

What does everyone else think?

they hit some high speeds (like 215) w/o them at the restrictor plate tracks..and of course you have the argument that it would cause a big, and more dangerous pile up than the restrictor plates..but honestly, i think you're safer with them on..only b/c about 1/2 of the field (if that) would be able to handle those speeds..and since everyone would be doing those speeds i think you're spelling disaster.
i would love to see a couple of totally capable, experienced drivers be able to open up at dega or daytona w/o them on in just a small heat though..

I would like to see an alternative to the dredded restrictor plates. A smaller carburetor, smaller engine size, more weight, larger rear spoilers, or even a larger restrictor plate used. The races at Daytona and Talladega today are horrible. I got such a laugh when a Minister giving the opening ceremonies invocation mentioned 'the Big One' in his prayer and the reaction of the Drivers upon hearing that.

i have not heard of something confirming it yet i do not see it occurring for my section. Talladega and Daytona has banking more desirable than 30 degrees which makes it a possibility for speeds too great to be probability-free without a restrictor plate.. on the different hand Fontana has banking below 15 degrees that can be seen flat adequate to keep the speeds from getting any larger. At this previous race at Fontana there have been lengthy runs with no longer many cautions and a range of of lapped automobiles. some followers appeared on the music as uninteresting. the purely reason NASCAR might want to positioned restrictor plates on the automobiles at Fontana is to bunch the automobiles up and create wrecks in hopes of turning out to be exhilaration.

Prior to the plates the cars were moving at more than 200 mph at Talladega. And if the catch fence had not caught Bobby Allison the state troopers estimated 150 persons would have been killed.
So if the C O T does what it is suppose to then we may see a race without the plates. But until a safer car keep the plate.

Restrictor plates are just another tool Nascar uses to manipulate their races. Another is the all too frequent use of the caution flag. Nascar constantly brags about how close and competitive the series is. If it were not for those factors and the fact that the cars are becoming almost identical (witness the coming of the cars of tomorrow) perhaps then we could enjoy real competition as it was in decades past.

Don't listen to those answers. Fatalities didnt skyrocket. A guy got turned sideways and he went up and ripped a big section of fence down and some spectators got hurt, that's why they started the plates. These cars nowadays would flip up into the stands if they didnt have plates. It's all about safety.

The plates were put on more for the protection of the fans than the drivers. I'm guessing the cars would go in excess of 220.

They used to run without plates, but the average speeds were getting so high that fatalities skyrocketed. The plates were added to slow the cars down, and while wrecks aren't as common as they used to be, it has actually improved the sport.

in 1987 bill elliot ran over 217 mph average at talladega, that is average.now with todays technology just think at what they would run.i'd hate to even guess.

here just a few months ago,i cant remember his name, ran at daytona in a busch car with no restrictor plate and he let off at just a little over 210

i personally like the plates.without them there would be 43 cars spread out over 2.7 miles of talladega surface.dont think it would be fun to watch.
