it's really quite simple...i had mine pierced a month ago
it did not hurt at all, of all the piercings i've had over the past few years it has been the least troublesome and most hassle free piercing...my earlobes gave me WAAAYYY more trouble..
all she has to do is find a reputable piercer to make sure all instruments are sterilized and you definitely want someone experienced, hitting the nerve that runs down your tongue cna definitely permanently leave half your face paralyzed, that is NOT a myth....and don't listen to the guy who said she should get a barbel with plastic balls, that's just asking for an infection, surgical steel, platinum, or gold greatly reduces the risk of infection....if you're worried about her chipping teeth, tell her to take care when eating and speaking until shes used to it...besides, a $1500 cost for fixing chipped teeth is better than ending up with a swollen infected tongue and potentially poisoning your blood with the toxins released......
and finally, TONGUE RINGS TO NOT SCAR TONGUES!!!! that is absolutely false, the mouth is the part of the body that heals the fastest (secodn only to the eyes) because of the amount of blood circulation in that area...tongue piercings, when removed, leave no scar and definitely leaves no unsightly hole in the middle of your tongue, the hole closes right up....if people have had problems with that then they probably weren't as cautious to keep it clean as they thought......oh, and i don't regret my tongue ring, i haven't even had a chance to "try it out" and still, I LOVE IT!! ....just make sure your friend knows all the facts

I have had my tongue pierced, and it didn't really hurt that much. Of course, there is some pain involved, you are placing a needle through your tongue! But it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just make sure you are getting it done professionally and with clean instruments. The first week is rough, because it swells and it is hard to talk. There is a little pain so your friend should stay away from salt and vinegar things or the pain will increase.
When you take a tongue ring out, IT CLOSES UP!! I don't know where that other person gets her information, but it closes up faster then any other piercing. I had my tongue ring for over five years, and it closed up within a couple weeks after I took it out. I have heard of NO cases of it never closing up.
The main problems with it is that it is HORRIBLE for you teeth. Not only for the enamel on the teeth, but when you are not used to it, or forget about it (which is quite normal) you can bite it and crack your teeth. I suggest plastic balls, so this does not happen as easily.

I got my tongue pierced when i was 13 (i'm now 18). I went to a perfessional. Never ever let a friend pierce it for you. Your tongue is one of the strongest muscles in your body and if you do it wrong it could paralize you. Not to scare you. Anyways.... when your friend goes they usually give you a liquid that numbs your tounge so you don't feel it as much. Her tongue will swell up. How much i couldn't tell you it varies from person to person. Me and my friend went at the same time and her's swelled up more than mine. She may also bleed a little bit. Don't worry its normal because its your bodies way of healing. She may also have impaired speech. this is also normal.. it may be hard to say her f's, s's, and some other letters. She may also not be able to eat hard foods for a while. They recommend no sexual activities or kissing or any other use with the tongue except for eating and talking. She will also need to pick up a bottle of listerine the yellow color (anti-bacterial) this will become her best friend. It will help heal the piercing faster. She may also need to suck on ice to help the swelling stay down. but no matter what don't make fun of your friend for any of the side effects. and tell her not to play with it after it is done. She should also get an all plastic bar-bell and everything. This will help delay chipping of teeth. This also is appreciated by the dentists.

Her tongue will not split in half, I think you are misguided about tongue piercings. You are worried which is fine, but you may also be uninformed.
All piercings hurt, but the overall pain depends on the individual person and the location of the piercing. Tongue piercings hurt and the following days the tongue will be swollen and she will have to adjust to eating and talking.
Oh and if you go to a good professional piercer, you shouldn't be having any problems. Good piercers will check the tongue for veins and their locations, deviated tongue webbing and any other deformities or potential complications. A good piercer would tell you if you are not able to get the piercing done. Most horror stories I hear of are people piercing their own tongues or allowing an inexperienced person to pierce them. So anything bad you've heard of, such as death, is not gonna happen. However, later in life, she can have weakened tooth enamel, gum recession and potentially cracked teeth (if she bites on it). But with proper care and jewelry, those problems are minimized. Same goes for the bad breath some people get; if you clean your mouth, you'll be fine.
Just make sure she takes care of her piercing and goes to a reputable piercer and all will be well.

If you go to a professional then the piercer will not mess up!! The first time I got my tongue done I was underage and my mom would not give her consent,so I had a friend of a friend of a friend do it in a Taco Bell parking lot... It was crooked and nasty. I took it out the next day. I've gotten my tongue pierced twice since then, by a professional, and it makes all the difference. If you take care of it properly while it is healing, it won't get infected, and after a few days you get used to it, so you wouldn't be biting on it, but it does wear down the enamel on your teeth over time.

It gets pretty graphic after you get your tongue pierced at least the next 4 or 5 days afterwards but once the pain is done you'll feel good.,., but later assuming all goes wewll ..,, I've come to find the agitated nerve left bare tends to get bitten on a lot during stress maybe even damaged with a dulled sensation that starts to become habbit.,,., Classic case of" Pain for pleasure" I hear that causes cancer

it is unlikely that it will split in half or that the piercer will mess up since it is a fairly common piercing. they give you a swish that numbs it first so it isn't really that painful having it done. afterwards, it is sore and swollen. she will talk funny and not be able to eat solid foods for a few days. the mouth is vascular so they usually heal up quick with very few problems. the biggest health risk occurs over time. it errodes teeth and it is possible to break teeth if you accidently bite down on the barbell while chewing. the first time she sees a dentist with it in he or she will freak and highly reccomend that she remove it.

I really don't think there is any way your tongue will split in half, unless you're trying to pierce the very tip of it.
Your tongue isn't going to fall out, it won't paralyze you, etc. etc...
Have it done by a PROFESSIONAL, clean it properly, and you should not have any problems!

I got my tongue pierced, had no problem whatsoever, and was actually the least painful one, and the easiest one to take care of.
If your piercer is a good one, there is no risk of splitting. The biggest risk is (by accident) unscrewing one of the balls and perhaps swallowing the tongue ring...

I had my tongue pierced and I did alot of research of the guy who did mine and he had been doing it for 28 years But if the personal doesn't know what they are doing lots of bad things can happen. there is a nerve that runs down your tongue and if they hit it, it can leave one side of your face paralyzed
