I have looked. Found nothing.

Some say it is better to believe than to not believe. But is fear the motivation God would want you to use in order to believe?

And imagine the disappointment of those who spent their whole lives believing in something that isn't true when they finally do leave this level of existence.

Don’t be silly. Of course I’ve looked to see if I should believe in god and I still don’t believe in god. I just don’t. Sorry. It seems unrealistic to me.

You have to remember that most “unbelievers” used to be religious and became “unbelievers” through contemplation and self-reasoning.

I’ve explored all the possibilities in my head.

You know, I wanted to add something.

I study sociology and anthropology (my major) and human beings are incredible animals. It’s hard to imagine how someone else might think, because many of them will think very differently than you. I find it amazing that you can find two incredibly different people (both very intelligent – IQ around 110 – 120) and give them a question (like “does god exist”) and the two of them will puzzle over it and reason it out in there own head for days. Both of them giving an equal amount of effort into, but for some reason they often come up with two totally different conclusions. It’s hard to imagine because we like to assume that if someone didn’t reach the same conclusion we did then they must not have thought about it very hard. I’m guilty of this sometimes too – we all are to some degree.

Hope this helps. :)

Believer's and Nonbeliever's alike, Don't worry Your Judgement Time Is Coming... And The Almight Will Cast Aside Those Whom Do Not Believe....

Anyway something like that.... :)

I see no difference between the two sides of your question.

I know (because I understand the evidence for gravity) that jumping out of a plane without a parachute is a bad thing. So, why should I then go and look for reasons to jump?

I've said this before, but I'll said it again... I doubt I'll ever understand why someone who is apparently very faithful feels it necessary to remind everyone of how faithful he/she is and how much everybody else who doesn't believe like he/she does must be wrong. What a HUGE waste of energy.

By the way -- the person making the assertion that something IS so, is the person on whose shoulders the burden of proof squarely sits.

Most people who seriously think and don't believe in god know why they shouldn't have to. most live good lives - without the threat of hell fire and damnation - so the only other thing is what happens when you die. For you believers - please tell me some one who has come back and has first hand knowledge of what it really is like over there. If god is going to send me to hell for using what he has given me - a strong analytical brain - and people who ridicule and denigrate me are going to heaven - then that is some place i do not want to be.

There's no reason not to wonder about it. I've looked into both sides equally. I've yet to come to a point in my life where I've felt the need to put my faith into anything that defined.

Oh I did... like many former Christians I struggled with that for a while, with what I 'should' be believing... but to believe something out of fear is to worship power and not love, and I just can't do it.

I'm not sure I understand you're ? but if you're asking why a person started ?ing the religion, that's easy. It teaches everything is just so and you're to do this or that in return but then you find out everything is not just so so you start ?ing things to find an answer. Then logic sets in and you start seeing errors and contradictions...
