Yeah, my cousin. For the time being, he wants to become a better Christian, take care of his kids and keep his nose clean. We'll see what happens when he gets out of prison.

Yes. But I've actually met more people who have gone through a positive transformation with never having found God or people who had already 'had' God long before any transformation, positive or negative.

I have watched several peoples lives transformed because of religion - and only in very few cases have they been transformed for the better - but then that is a personal opinion.

The human mind can heal many things, and sometimes it feels like it came from outside. Every religion has examples of people who have turned their lives around. It's one of the most compelling aspects of religion.
However, there have also been people who have felt tortured by their religion who, once they came to recognize that there was no God to condemn them, that the rigidity of the faith was simply made-up and delusional, felt liberated and able to live a more fulfilling and transformed life.

I knew a guy on drugs who found god and changed. But then again I knew a couple of people who gave all their money to the church and ended up bankrupt.
It really is you that is doing the changing. If you are so weak that you have to say it is God then I am still glad it worked for you. None of that has any impact on what is really happening.

Oh yeah. I watched them get off of drugs and drink. That was good. Some people need a crutch. Then I watched them condemn anyone who didn't do EXACTLY as they said and did.
Then I watched as their life's savings was sent away to some TV preacher who promised to help all "of God's chillin" . The Flim Flam Man.
My friends are broke and drunk on God. Who gonna get them clean NOW.

Yes. As others answering this question have said, it was rarely for the better. I have one cousin who's life was transformed through Christ. He actually took it upon himself to spearhead a committee that drove their pastor out of the church - because their pastor was female and he didn't consider a woman fit to lead the congregation.
Bright blessings.

I've seen some get really whacked out on religion. I wouldn't say the transformation was something positive.

I lived with religion for 22 years and saw the "jesus high" people got from camps and retreats, but never once in 22 years saw people be "transformed".
