Puppy might get lonely! Things should be fine, but you might want to lock him in his crate while you're at school... Don't worry the crate is like his room. If you want, you can hire someone to come in between like at noon and let him out, maybe let him have a pee... you know.

Yes, definitely crate train him. And be prepared to clean up messes; if a puppy is 2 months old, it can only hold it's bladder for 3 hours. Whatever the pup's age is in months, add one and that is the number of hours that it can hold it. There's no way you have "already potty trained him" at 8 and 1/2 weeks-old, so please be prepared to clean up some messes. DO NOT scold him, either. It is not his fault that he can't hold it for as long as you would like. Simply clean up the mess, do not rub his nose in it or hit him or stick him outside or force him into his crate.

If you are going to be gone that amount of time, do not feed him in the mornings. Feed him once a day, in the evening when you are home and able to take him out for potty breaks.

Bathe him as often as you feel it's necessary- probably weekly. With the short coat, he shouldn't get TOO stinky too fast, and will need minimal grooming :o). P.S. DO NOT use Hartz shampoo please, it is toxic to animals and children!! An oatmeal shampoo bought at a pet store would be great.

Pay attention to him as much as you want to, but make sure to set aside rest time (for both you and him). After a play time session, take him out to see if he will potty, and then ignore him for a while so that he can nap, and you can relax too.

For training, please consider signing up for a puppy training class. Most of them will start at 12 weeks-old. They are AWESOME. They provide much-needed socialization and training- for both you and the puppy!! Check for kennels in your area, call around for prices, and MAKE SURE it is POSITIVE ONLY training- no prong, choke, or shock collars; no negative re-enforcement of any kind.

Hope this helped!!

Puppies should be fed around 2 times daily. The amount suggested will be labeled on the bag of dog food, based on size and weight. Puppy chow is a must, considering the dog's age.
Early socialization classes or a local dog park are a must, as well, to prevent dog aggression later in life. Spay/neuter!! Make sure your puppy is kept up to date on the vaccinations needed in their early life. Consider buying him a crate, for the time that no one is home, to prevent destruction due to boredom. Brush him weekly, bath him no more than once a month if needed. Basic training can be taught with a few treats and ''sit'', ''down'', while putting the puppy in that position. Eventually, he'll do it on his own.

Your puppy should be fine when you guys are at school. Just make sure he has enough toys to play with. Rawhides are the best or those plastic kongs. Dogs love them. If you have a yard, it would be best for him to stay outside while you are not home. It gives them more space to play while you are not there. Pit bulls are usually over eaters so don't free feed them (keep a bowl out at all times). Schedule their feedings. Feed him before you go to school and them in the last afternoon. Bathing them is totally up to you. As far as training them, contact your local humane society. They usually have the best info on good and CHEAP trainers. Good luck. Pits are a blast!

Does your pup have room to play while you're gone? I hope so..he'll need it as he gets bigger. It's awesome that you've potty trained him.
I feed my dogs once in the morning and once at night. Bathe them when they're dirty. Be firm and consistant with training, reward with lots of love and petting.
The only thing I've found different between my pit and some other breeds is that they are a VERY high-energy dog. Give lots of exercise and lots of play--if you can't, you should find someone who can.

You pit bull has to be socialized before he get's too old (around 14 weeks) If you don't socialize him around all types of people such as kids, men, babies, women, etc. and other animals, he may become aggressive. This is why so many people have problems with pit bulls because they don't understand the breed. I waited until my pit bull was 6 months old before I took him out only to find out that he hates men. Can you imagine a strong male pit bull snarling and snapping at every man that walked by? I have since had to pay $1200 for obedience training. Prevent it before it starts and if you can't give him the attention that he needs find him another home, because we don't need another pit in the news. Good Luck

Are you close enough to your school to run home during your lunch hour? Maybe you can schedule your classes to have a "free period" just before or after lunch?

Give your pup a long brisk walk right before school, and another one right after school. Make "puppy playdates" as it is VERY important to socalize these dogs! our pup and your neighborhood will love you for it!

And if you can manage it... attend a professional training course. I did not have the oppertunity, (all the classes around here are taught in Japanese!) and I am regretting it. I just hope its not too late in a few years when I get back to the states.

Bath once a week till about 4 months old and afert once a month. I keep food down all the time becasue mine is a nibbler. Pay lots of attention to your puppy and make sure you socialize with other people and dogs. Give them lots of chew toys. do not listen tothe fools that say they are all bad dogs.

i owned a pitbull once. he was the best dog ever. when feeding give him a good quality brand of food like iams. never used canned food its not good for there teeth. because you took the puppy away from his mother you are now the replacement. give him as much attention as possible. pitbulls are very smart and learn quickly correct his mistakes at an early age to make sure he knows who is in charge. enjoy your new friend

if people tell you to do anything to train him that harms him physically or phycologically don't do it, it's abuse. who cares if your dog is mean. if they are left alone it is ok but no cages or tight areas, leave the animal channel on or something and let him roam around the house. but don't beat him. don't leave garbage to where he can reach it, my friends pittbull was once choking on garbage, no sweets all the time. and don't beat him, it's a dog, not a runaway slave. bathe regularly so it can get into the habit. they need lots of attention, dont yell at them because they can tell when you are. treat it likea friend and it will become one. and dogs don't really need training. think of them as humans with four feet.
-some black kid.
