that peaceful and loving people can find tolerance preached in the bible, and hateful people cant find any evidence of it in the bible....is the bible truly open to interpretation?

b-krak....atheism was never a sect of christianity, and it certainly isnt dead. paganism is alive and well.

I claim membership in the first group (mostly). There is no doubt the bible contains many exhortations of, and prescriptions for, peace and love. But it would worse than naive to deny that barbaric violence and inhumanity are also, and frequently, practiced in the bible - much of it perpetrated in God's name and even by His direct command.

the bible answere both of those statements.

We are to be tolerant with the people. But not tolerant of the sins of the people.

You've heard of selective hearing, right? In this case, perhaps it would be labeled as 'selective reasoning'...

It all depends on a person's hidden agenda as to what is to be done with the information or disinformation that is made available.

as with anything written down I can read it and have and understanding different from you. Look at Islam and how some view there religion....
