There are various Elbow(Macaroni) salads you can make with sour cream. You could add shredded cheddar cheese and peas or broccoli.

A Yummy pasta salad without the sour cream, however, is using bowtie, feta cheese, black olives, diced red onions/red peppers, and Greek dressing. In both scenarios, it's best to allow the pasta to cool prior to adding the ingredients. This call easily be done by running it under cold water.

boil pasta and let it cool. TO expedite cooling run under cold water. Macaroni salads are cold pasta. So are pasta salads.
