In French there is the national language the French but after as it was said in a lot of regions , you could say a state but much smaller and less power than in the States, has some old languages that are only spoken there : provencal, breton, auvergnat, corse, basque and many others. After in some overseas department there are other dialects from the local populations.

In French we do have another language to joke : "langue de bois" meaning litteraly tongue's language but in fact in means lying like the politicals do.

There are a lot more than 3 recognized languages in France.

French, of course. Breton, a Celtic langauge, in Brittany. Occitian (or Provencal) in the south - sometimes included as part of Catalan. Catalan (or Roussillon) in areas near Spain. Gascon, also along Spanish border. Basque, or Euskara, in the Basque areas along the Pyrennes. Piedmontese along the Italian border. Flemish in Nord-Pas de Calais. Alsatian and other German dialects in Alsace. Lorraine in Lorraine. Also Picard, Gallo, and Poitevin-Saintongeais. Corsican on Corsica.

Probably some I missed - plus, of course, languages from immigrants and guest workers - Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Berber, and others.
