allowed you to stay in a home where you were told that you were to keep it clean and maintained until you found an apartment of your own. A house that is basically for sale but no one lives there in a very well to do area and it was given to you while on the market until you got a place of your own. You begin your search for a place and then are told not to worry about it cause you could stay there as long as you wanted too. You do this and then one day out of no where it is said that its going to be rented to a friend of thiers and you have until 7 pm to get your things and move. What would you do?

I would say thank you for the opportunity that you have given me and I will be out by 7:00 as you asked.
It's that simple.

Pack up and leave..... as someone else pointed out, you have no contract, and no protection. It would have been nice if they would have given you some notice, but you were aware that this was not a permanent arrangement, so hopefully you have some leads. A co-worker had a similar problem last year after being displaced by a hurricane (apt condemed) and he was told he could stay with friends indefinately- but was asked to leave on Thanksgiving Day, by 3pm- so relatives from Michigan could come stay. He wound up on people's sofa's (mine for 10 days) until he found a new rental. Good luck.

In this instance you were a guest and not a renter so sad to say you could beg for some more time or be gracious and move. Now you know what type of friends these folks are not giving you at least a little notice even if you were not paying them.

Good luck and remember Like Motel 6 I'll leave the light on for ya!!!

First off you knew the deal when you moved in the place. Do you think they should suffer financially because you have not found a place? Think of the $$ you have already saved and go rent a hotel room. When they said, "Stay there as long as you want" you should have known it meant 'within reason' and you should have known that if they rented the place you needed to go - they should not have to explain that to you. You sound very ungrateful!

How long were you there?

You really have no choice other than to find someone else to stay with or rent a motel. I would be upset that they didn't give you at least a week's notice to get your things ready, but if you value their friendship (And they were nice enough to let you stay) I would not make a huge deal out of it. It is ok to let them know that a couple of days notice would have been nice so you could properly get your things packed in boxes.

Pack up. They have the right to rent their house and I am in no way entitled to be given a place to live free.

When something appears too good to be true, it usually is. This is why paying rent under a lease isn't such a bad thing after all.

get your things together and move out. What else can you do? You have no contract and no legal right to be there Now I think that was a pretty mean and jerky thing for your friend to do and I would probably talk to them about it. But what else can you do? Leave.

how long have you been living there? you should check with your local district attorney office, because if you have been living there for over a set amount of time you have established residence weather or not you are paying rent. therefore you should be due a 30 day notice to move. so tell them they have to give you a 30 day notice

I'm sorry that happened to you. If it had happened to me, my feelings would be hurt really badly, but atlas you have no choice but to get your things and look for somewhere else to live. Good Luck! I wish you well.
