Compared to pasta, bread and sugars, lean meat is lower in calories and less digestible.

It can. Weight loss = expending more calories than you eat. Vegetarian diets are high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains which naturally contain more vitamins, minerals and fiber, which makes you feel more full. Protein can come from things like soy (a complete vegetarian protein which includes tofu, edamame, veggie burgers, tempeh), beans combined with whole grains, nuts and seeds. Substituting these healthy items for the calorie dense, nutrient poor items that are part of most meat-eating American's diets will help you lose weight and feel better overall. There are lots of resources out there - educate yourself on the benefits of becoming vegetarian.

Yes.......and no. You can lose weight by not eating meat, but it also depends on what else you will eat. I started to become a vegetarian for at least a month an I lost 10 pounds, but then I relized it wasn't really healthy. Our bodies need meat because it has alot of protien. ou also have to excercise and do a lot of things 2! If you won't eat meat then at least eat something like banannas because it has protein.

No- cutting calories and exercize helps you lose weight. There are plenty of veggie foods with lots of calories- and most carbs, especially simple ones like white rice, white rice or white pastas, get digested really quickly, and you feel hungry sooner than if you ate protein. Sure, there are vegan protein sources, but unless you are making the change for religious or ethical reasons, I would keep a more varied, diet, with meats, if all you want is weight loss.

JUST by becoming a vegitarian you will not nesc. lose weight but alot of times it does help you eliminate unhealthy foods from your diet. It really depends on what type of vegetarian diet you follow.

Although many people believe the vegetarian way of eating is inherently healthy, lower-fat food choices and calorie control are important no matter how you eat.

-If you drink dairy products, choose fat-free milk. If you use soymilk, look for a reduced-fat, fortified soymilk to get protein and essential vitamins and minerals without unnecessary fat and calories.
-Use cheese sparingly -- both cheese from cow's milk and cheese from soy or rice milk can be high in fat. Use less cheese and choose low-fat versions (no more than five grams of fat per ounce) whenever possible.
-Make legumes, tofu and tempeh your primary protein choices. All are fairly low in fat, and legumes also add fiber to your diet. Nuts and seeds are excellent sources of protein, but be wary of large portion sizes. If you're eating more than a handful a day it's too much.
-Choose fresh fruit or raw vegetables for snacks if you're really hungry.
-Limit snacks high in fat or sugar.
-Try flavoring foods with salsa, lemon juice or flavored vinegars instead of mayonnaise, butter or margarine, or sour cream.
-As with any diet, pass up fried foods and opt for baked, broiled or steamed instead.
-Try to eat only when you're hungry. Nibbling even on low-calorie foods when you're not really hungry only causes additional weight gain.
-Get creative with low-fat vegetarian recipes.

Yes, and if you also eliminate junk food, bread, and pasta, you get super-slim.

But make sure you eat PROTEIN and a small amount of HEALTHY FAT at every meal!!

Vegetarian protein: low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat milk, egg whites, or protein powder.

Healthy fats: avocado, walnuts, or almonds, or sesame tahini.

The 3rd component of the meal should of course be a large plate of veggies.

You will get very slim on this diet, especially if you work out too, with weights.

i think that it does help you to lose weight... it is also really healthy for you because you can still eat protein in nuts or something like that and not eat all the fat that is in meet... or you could eat tofu(i've heard that it is really good) which is supposed to be extreememly healthy for you... it wont make you unhealthily thin unless you dont know how to be a vegetarian.. you just have to make sure that you get all the food groups like you would normally have... meaning protein... hope this helps =D

not neccessarily. it is not meat alone which makes people fat. its junk food. i know a few vegatarians and although they eat no meat they mostly eat pasta day in day out among other junk such as crisps and chocolate. so no its not about how much meat you eat but high cal and high fat foods.
