My ex and I both still love each other. But my ex has a big package...He has a kid, and is still in the process of getting the divorce. He told me that he doesnt think love is enough. He feels a commitment towards his family, which I understand, but if he doesnt love her then shouldnt he give me a chance and still have that commitment towards his kid? can someone please give me some advice?

Your question is confusing as to who is who...

Look...it doesn't matter how big his package is...if you have to convince him now, you will be convincing him forever....better to let him go and find another...and if he is getting a divorce, you should be waiting until it is final....otherwise he will still have an attatchment to the former relationship other than the kid....better to move on.

He also has a commitment to maintaining a good co-parenting relationship with his ex (or soon-to-be-ex) wife. She is also his family whether you like it or not... and you should see this as a good thing, when there are so many split-up parents that don't get along.

If the two of you are right for each other, it will eventually work out. In the meantime he has more important stuff to deal with than getting into a relationship with you while he is still married. Patience.

if you are right for each other, there shouldnt be any convincing. you should both know it. but he doesnt. you cant force him to feel the same way.

besides, how committed is he if he was dating you when his divorce wasn't even over yet???

at the very least, you need to give him time to deal with his situation. if you are certain that you guys will end up together, then give it time. the last thing he needs is someone pushing commitment on him when he's dealing with his last commitment blowing up in his face.

You should let him go. He's married and is working out his troubles with his child and wife. He's right to say love isn't enough. it isn't. He doesn't have to pick either his wife or you- he can take the time he needs to recover and not pick anyone for a while.

I agree with Sabine.

Also, you can't convince a person that you are "right" for each other, that is entirely up to that person.

It would be best for you to find someone else, someone without so much on their plate.

yes he should have a commitment to his child, and if you cant accept that, then clearly you are not the one for him.
