Because we realize the devastation they wrought and we are trying our hardest to get everyone to not use them or never create them. Once we succeed at doing that then and only then will we disassemble ours.

Actually, you are wrong.... England, France, Russia, Pakistan, India, China, Israel (but won't admit nor deny it), and North Korea have Nukes. However, I dont feel like having a guy from some islamic fudamentalist country with a chip on his shoulder with a small nuclear device come into time square and detonate the damn thing and take out 20 city blocks. Our country might not be responsible 100% of the time and make mistakes, but at least I know that we won't nuke another country on a whim.

It's not ok if you think, yeah they are the only one's to have used the bomb in a conflict. But on the other hand the U.S. has regreted those events and has done everything possible to prevent proliferation since.
The bottom line is though, if the U.S is allowed to have them so should other countries. Only if the U.S. gives up its WMD should they be allowed to attack another country for trying to gain them. It's only fair. You can't preach to Iran if you have 1,000 warheads and you have used nuclear weapons against Japan, no matter how imbalanced their leader is.
Peace,

I have asked this same question many times to myself so I see your point but it is not only the US who are trying to prevent WMD's. Yes we are showing a bit of a double standard but I think we also have a better checks and balance system than many countries. I hope one day we will find a way to get rid of our nuclear weapons also.

Because the USA government, not most of the people, wants to control the world through fear. The US government wants the rest of the world to be their slaves.
Do not confuse the US government with the US people, I am not talking about the people.
Bush truly believes he is doing the right thing for the world that is why he has his teeth sunk in and holding on to what he believes like a rabid pit bull! He does not care what the people want he is only interested in the agenda he has embarked upon.
No country needs WMD's but as long as war machine manufactures are allowed to research and produce them they will be around and used. WMDs are the number one money maker along with the wars they produce in the world.
Now think about what I have said before you give me that thumbs down for my answer...

Um...let us use an analogy you might identify with. The US has never crossed into Canada to gas thousands? We have never seen the state of Kansas launch a nuclear warhead at say.....Nevada/ We have never seen Florida launch a mustard gas cannister at....Alabama?
Apples and oranges, your example does not fit when viewing Saddam Husayn or others like him.

We're not a terror nation that's why. If you're a mad man like Saddam, or this nut case president of Iran, and have WMD's then the whole world is in danger.

Do you really see this as a parallel argument, or have you just run out of posts and walls with which to argue? We did have a nuclear monopoly for quite a while, if you'll recall, and showed our restraint. And we were not the instigators of WW II. So what's your argument?

We are not a nation run by radical islamic leaders who openly plot to destroy the U.S. and all its citizens.
We wan't nuclear wepons to vanish from the face of the earth. Iran and Korea will never stop trying to build them, even if we don't have them. They would build them purley to use against us.

It's in our best interests to keep WMD's out of the hands of hostile regimes.
Other countries have used chem weapons. We used A bombs over 60 years ago. Everyone involved in that decision is now dead. I thinkit was the correct decision. In case you forgot, WE WERE AT WAR!
