First thing it depends on the metal.
Most common is steel. If you form above the recrystallization temperature there will not be any residual stress left in the part once formed. Just continue to roll or form the metal and it will relieve itself of the stresses from forming and you can continue to work the metal. If below the recrystallization temp. then you will get grain patterns that will enhance the properties of the part formed. The flow of the grain is what gives forgings their strength. As you heat metals they become more formable with less force. And as you increase the stress inside of the part the metal will become more subceptable to stress cracking. ie bending a paper clip until it breaks.
There are also processes where metals are formed in what is called squeese casting where the metal is in a semi solid form and the finished part will give you some benifits of forged and cast in the same part.

If you form a metal when hot, it is less likely to break during the forming. Also, there will be less internal stresses and defects.

Well you can't get metal forming without a force or heat added
iron = heat
gold =force or heat

When you heat metal to form it. It will releive the stresses
normally applied from cold forming. but you risk anealing or warping it
