As human beings, I think that everyone deserves the same amount of respect regardless of how old they are. But age should determine HOW we show that respect. Adults deserve more "venerative" respect whereas children deserve more protective respect.

Children are human beings and deserve to be respected. Children learn to respect by being respected.

No they dont. An adult should respect a child as an act of courtesy when it comes to things like conversations, opinions, and ideas. But parents and children are not equal. Therefore the level of respect is not equal.

Children do deserve the same respect as adults because we have almost the same amount of problems to solve and its like school is our work so why shoundnt we be treated the same.

Yes they deserve respect, but not to the extent that they feel they can walk all over you. YOU are still the parent.

For the most part I feel that respect goes both ways, you get respect if you earn it and vice versa. If your children act bratty then they should be treated like bratty children.

And that's my two cents!

I believe that, until they have shown that they dont, everyone deserves the same respect. I know many teens as well as many adults who wont get an once of my respect but all of them have proven to me that they dont deserve it.

Everyone deserves respect...kids or not....respect being for example, giving the reasons they are in trouble, let them make small decisions for themselves, yet being there as a guide, decisions like, "what do you want for a snack", or what toy do you want to play with"...this will allow them to think...but you also have to draw the line sometimes and just put your foot down

Not exactly - but they do deserve more respect than most people seem to give them: certainly they deserve to have their opinions taken into account more.

Yes they do. But they are not mini-adults, they are children. As such they do not always have the experience, knowledge or ability to do the right things. For this reason they are required to go to school, to obey their parents, to learn how to behave, and are subject to discipline and punishments which adults do not have to endure.
