I have two female cats. They are about 2 years old. One cat is very well mannered and never gets into trouble. The other cat is constantly looking for it. She messes with the blinds, Christmas tree, stockings, cables, jumps on counters, dressers, etc. I've tried things like spraying her with a water bottle when she's bad and spraying some organic cat repellant around the areas that she shouldn't be in. She will leave whatever she is messing with alone for a minute, but then will be right back at it. I'm frustrated with it. What else can I do?

I have that problem as well with my 2 kittens. One is the one we call "psycho kitty" because he gets into everything and he's the troublemaker. My other kitten is so well mannered that sometimes I have to check to make sure she's in apartment!

When you spray your kitty, are you giving her something else to get her attention like a toy? If you are just spraying and then letting her be, chances are, her mind is still where you just pulled her away from. So distract her with another toy after you spray her. And don't be afraid to spray a lot because the worse of a feeling they have, the less likely they will want to repeat their actions.

We're still working on our lil' guy, but we've gotten to the point where all we have to do is aim the sprayer at him and he automatically runs away while shaking himself off (as if he had already been sprayed). So we have improvement and our blinds & furniture have never been happier! =P

I had two female cats, one was very good while the other would do all sorts of things when we were gone. When we came home the "good cat" would be all upset and nervous, while the other cat who had been bad was calm. The "good cat" got the blame for a long time, but we finally figured it out. The "good cat" died and so we thought everything would go on as usual. Now the "bad cat" behaves even better than the "good cat" ever did. We realized she didn't like sharing us, her home, the water dish, who knows? with the other cat. If you have a large home maybe give them different spaces, but I'm not sure it will work.

It sounds to me like your kitty is bored. Try redirecting her behavior by scattering some toys around the house. You might want to place some treats in various hidden places that she can get to throughout your house. This gives kitty the illusion of hunting. Spend a few minutes a day playing with her. I've had great results with a toy called a "cat dancer". It is inexpensive and cats seem to love it!

It sounds like a pure and simple case of kitty boredom! Some kitties are perfectly content eating, grooming and sleeping all day. Others are adventure seekers and need constant excitement in between napping, grooming and eating! The best cure for kitty boredom is play therapy. Trust me, it works! You need to set aside at least 20 minutes a day to play with your kitty. You can either do it in all one session or even better break it up into 2 or more 10 minute sessions spaced several hours apart. Play with your kitty till she's lying on her side panting in exhaustion! The best toys are the teaser/interactive toys like Da Bird (http://woofandmeowshoppe.com/dabirdcattoy.html) or a laser light toy. Cats LOVE these toys and they love interacting with you. Besides being a bonding experience and good exercise, your kitty will prefer this "approved play" to getting sprayed with water or yelled at for initiating their own fun & games. Trust me, play therapy works like a charm every time. You can't go wrong. Good luck!

Don't be so strict shes a cat not a Marine. You might as well reason with the rain. Try keeping a perfectly normal kid out of a muddhole. My Stimpy goes where she wants and doesn't damage anything. PS, as to the tree I chose an Arizona Cypress so she could JOIN me in Christmas. Merry Christmas....

Buy some toys for her to play with and play with her for at least an hour or two a day. Get her tired but don't forget to include the other cat. Maybe try and see if they both will play with each other.

If you didn't have a computer, a TV, a stereo, maybe a video game deck, I wonder what you would do to pass the time. The cat is trying to play and it sounds like she is using whatever is available. Maybe get the cat some toys and show her how they work. If you had a kid you would buy it toys or it would be into all your stuff too.

Hey,
I know how it feels. I have more than 10 cats. This might seem mean but it works. Put the cat in a room with nothing in it. But you have to have food and water and literbox. The cat will learn not to be naugty with nothing to do.

If just spraying her for a quick second isn't working then hold her down and spray it in her face. I know that sounds harsh but if my cats didn't listen and were that destructive then I would do the same thing. But you have to be constant with it. EVERY time she does something then hold her down. Eventually she will realize that what she is doing is bad.

You could play with it more. Cats need a lot of attention. The stuff she is doing is playing with things that aren't cat toys. Maybe you could get her some toys that she likes.
