I see all sorts of people saying we need an Islamic Congressman or a Christian President, well how about a Pagan President, or a Pagan Senator? We can turn the Oval Office into a ritual room.
Anyways, Who cares what religion a politician is, as long as they do their job right?

A good Pagan politician would work for bettering the enviroment of course. Lessening the problems between the different religions and increasing their respect and acceptance of each other. All doing this with a "Harm None" philosophy towards everything. I'd run, but I'm not old enough.
On a second though, would a Pagan President hold office in the White House, or a grove of oaks? What if they changed "In God We Trust" to "Blessed Be" on the money. Hmmm... lots to think about here...

I've seen a few attempts to get Pagans into politics - and, frankly, it makes me a little cautious. I don't know what it is about politics, but it tends to bring out the... shall we say "less qualified" members of the community? I've had my fill of folks who were going to lead the Pagans on to "greatness", and yet couldn't wrap their mind around the fact that Wicca and its close cousins were not the end-all, be-all of Paganism.
Society-wise, I don't think that a Pagan would get beyond state legislature - once it became public, there'd be too many people opposing it, just on a religious basis. Maybe in a few years, things will change enough, but I'm not holding my breath.
As to your last question - as long as they do their job right, I could care less what their beliefs are. The job isn't about their beliefs, it's about their capabilities.

Actually, I would love to see a Strong Atheist take the Presidency. Then maybe we won't see all this Religious stuff in the White House.
Just so I don't get any e-mails... I'm Pagan. For some strange reason I get some that think I'm Atheist. *Sigh*

I think that would be a good thing, I'm all for it. Of course people vote their beliefs, and mine being the environment, freedom of thought, equality and protection of civil rights which comes from my ideas as well as the beliefs represented by my religion which happens to be paganism, of course I would love to vote and have my beliefs and ideas represented fairly in the government which I don't see happening so much now, hopefully with the recent house and senate power switch to the more tolerant Democrats that will change but I am doubtful.

It shouldn't matter what religion a politician is, as long as they perform their job well. However, it would be cool to see some pagan politicians, if only to help educate the public about the relgion.

Alot of folks on this forum say they'd vote for any religion, as long as they could do the job. If that's true... why were the christians so hell-bent on getting Pres. Bush elected... the fundie churches were instrumental in the election process. Clearly many people vote based on electing one of their "own."
Are the christians in this forum an exception? Possibly...
I believe a pagan candidate would get shot like MLK and JFK. (unfortunately....)

I agree, unfortunately the majority of people would never stand for a Pagan Politician, perhaps because too much good would be served by one and then the "established" churches would lose out too much.

I'd love to see a Pagan or Wiccan in office. Hopefully I will in my lifetime! And I couldn't care less what religion a politician is, as long as they do their job well. How many Christian congressmen have gotten into all kinds of scandals and gotten tripped up with misdealings with lobbyists?!
Bright blessings.

Religion ought not be a political platform.
There are Pagan politicians out there. They are "in the broomcloset" to ensure they don't lose their job.

It'd be interesting to see a Pagan politician in office, but I doubt it will happen any time soon. ;p
Anyways, I don't care what religion a politician is. As long as s/he can do a good job, all is well.

Its funny how people quote the founding fathers because they think that they were Christians.
Most of them were Deist you know...
As for your question, I dont care what religion a polition is as long as it doesn't get in the way of their job or the freedom of other people.
